Chapter 428 I Don't Want You to Leave Because I Truly Care About You
Hearing Sylvia's words, a glimmer of hope sparked in Yvette's otherwise dull eyes.
She looked up at Sylvia and suddenly spoke, "Sylvia, I already told Albert I'm going shopping with you. Can you help me ditch the bodyguards he's assigned to me?"
Sylvia was taken aback. "Bodyguards?"
"Yeah, he's got people watching me all the time," Yvette said, a bit anxious as she grabbed Sylvia's hand. "I need to get rid of them to find a way to get this information."
Sylvia asked incredulously, "Why would he have people watching you?"
"Maybe he's afraid I'll leave?" Yvette forced a bitter smile. "I'm not sure what he feels for me, but there's definitely possessiveness. He won't let me out of his sight."
Sylvia furrowed her brows, thinking for a moment before speaking softly, "Yvette, is it possible that he's changed and doesn't want you to leave because he genuinely cares about you?"
Yvette was stunned. "Why do you say that?"
Sylvia said, "This morning, before I went to the party, I had some free time and went to the nearby mall..."
It was Sylvia's first time visiting such a high-end mall, filled with luxury brands. She wandered around, greedily eyeing the luxury items she had only seen online before.
Since starting work, Sylvia had been a big spender and hadn't saved much money. But after buying a house, she started to save consciously. Now, working as a doctor, she had managed to save quite a bit over the years.
At that moment, seeing those luxury bags no longer seemed out of reach, and she felt a bit tempted.
Sylvia calculated the money in her account and cautiously approached a sales associate. "Excuse me, can I see this bag?"
The sales associate, used to wealthy customers, responded enthusiastically, "This is one of our basic models. I'll get it for you."
Holding the dream bag in her hands, Sylvia felt a surge of excitement.
Just then, a familiar, mocking voice came from behind her. "Well, if it isn't Yvette's good friend Sylvia."
Sylvia turned around to see Ingrid, dressed to the nines, walking over with a look of disdain.
Ingrid crossed her arms and looked at the basic luxury bag in Sylvia's hands. "Look at you, all shabby. Yvette married Albert, and she can't even buy you a bag? You have to scrimp and save to buy a basic model?"
Sylvia's face flushed, but she defiantly rolled her eyes. "I spend my own money. What I buy is none of your business. Don't get too cocky, or you might go bankrupt!"
Ingrid sneered and turned to the sales associate. "You serve me. I'll meet your sales quota for the day. How many basic models would you have to sell to make up for her?"
The sales associate's expression changed immediately. She snatched the bag from Sylvia's hands and looked her up and down with disdain before turning to Ingrid. "Ma'am, which one would you like? I'll show you."
Seeing Ingrid flaunting herself in front of her, Sylvia's face turned red with anger. But in a place where money talked, Sylvia had no way to compete with her.
Suddenly, a deep male voice came from behind. "I'll pay for her."
Sylvia turned and saw Albert, who walked up to the sales associate and handed her a card. "Whatever this lady wants, put it on my tab."
Sylvia was stunned, and even Ingrid was taken aback.
Ingrid, furious, shouted, "Albert? What are you doing? Why are you helping her?"
Sylvia was flustered. "Mr. Valdemar, that's not necessary."
Albert glanced at Sylvia, his expression calm. "Yvette said you helped her the other day. Consider this my thanks."
He casually adjusted his cuff. "Pick whatever you like, two of each. One for you and one for Yvette. I have other matters to attend to."
With that, Albert turned and left.
The sales associate, seeing Albert's generosity, was thrilled and her eyes sparkled with excitement.
At that moment, her differential treatment made Sylvia feel like she was in a feel-good story.
It took Sylvia a moment to react. She smugly looked at Ingrid. "Oh, Ingrid, your brother is Albert. Why is he helping me? Oh, right, because I'm his wife's friend!"
Ingrid was seething with anger, but with Albert personally backing Sylvia, she didn't dare say more.
Ingrid stomped her foot, glared at Sylvia, and turned to leave. "We'll see about this!"
Watching Ingrid's retreating figure, Sylvia felt great.
The sales associate approached eagerly. "Ma'am, I've packed two of those bags for you! Would you like to look at anything else?"
Sylvia's face turned cold as she snatched Albert's card from the sales associate's hand. "I won't let you earn a single dollar from me!"
Sylvia recounted the entire incident to Yvette, speaking earnestly, "It's not because he paid for me that I think differently of him. I believe he genuinely cares about you, which is why he doesn't want to see your friends being bullied. With his personality, he wouldn't meddle in other people's business, right?"
Yvette was moved but remained silent.
Sylvia continued, "I'm willing to help you because I think you and Albert can reconcile. You need to find the evidence, not just to clear your name and confirm the kids' identities, but to show Albert the truth so you can truly make amends!"
Yvette's eyes welled up with tears.
Just then, the door lock clicked, and both Yvette and Sylvia looked towards the sound.
Albert had returned.
Yvette and Sylvia exchanged glances and swallowed the rest of their conversation.
Sylvia raised her hand to greet Albert. "Hi, Mr. Valdemar."
Sylvia still used the formal address she had when she first met Albert. Albert nodded calmly.
Sylvia glanced between Albert and Yvette, then awkwardly smiled. "I'll head back to my room now!"
"Okay," Yvette replied.
Before Albert could respond, Sylvia quickly fled the room.
Albert glanced at the closed door. "Why was she here?"
Yvette, not daring to mention what had just happened, feigned annoyance and pouted. "She was waiting for me to go shopping, but you scared her off."
Hearing this, Albert walked straight to Yvette, looking down at her with a hidden intensity in his eyes.
His expression was calm, but his voice was inexplicably deep. "I know everything that happened today."
