Chapter 120 The Real Reason Yvette and Albert Got Married

When David heard the word "divorce," he finally snapped.

His brows furrowed, and his gentle demeanor turned cold.

His jaw tightened. "Albert isn't even in the company's leadership. Why are you meddling in his marriage?"

"All your cousins married into wealthy families. You and your brother can't compare. Do you think Grandpa will always favor us?" James sneered. "If I hadn't worked hard to please him, you two would have been forgotten by Grandpa long ago."

James claimed it was for him and Albert, but David knew it was really for himself.

"So what? Sacrificing my happiness isn't enough; you want to sacrifice Albert's too?" David's fists clenched behind his back.

"What do you mean by sacrificing your happiness? Taking over the Valdemar family business isn't a sacrifice." James lit a cigarette. "Besides, do you think he married that girl because he liked her? The Swift family said she trapped him by getting pregnant so she could marry Albert!"

David was stunned.

In a flash, he remembered the sadness in Yvette's eyes when he mentioned Albert today.

He'd seen the spark in Yvette's eyes that summer, and her shaky emotions when talking about Albert were still fresh in his mind.

Could he have been wrong?

Had she stopped liking Albert?

David's mind raced, but he quickly composed himself and hid his emotions.

"He's already married. A divorce won't help the family. Do you think women from prominent families would want a divorced man? What could they gain?"

James looked at David with disdain. "Don't you get it? Even if he's divorced, he still has value. Aunt Moore said the eldest daughter of the Horizon Group, who now runs the company, is a perfect match for Albert. Grandpa always wanted to collaborate with their group, but they refused."

David furrowed his brows. "What do you mean?"

"If Albert marries her, it would solve Grandpa's biggest problem, and naturally, this business would be under our control." James raised an eyebrow. "With this connection, we wouldn't have to worry about your uncles fighting us for the inheritance."

David looked at James in shock. "Dad, if I remember correctly, the eldest daughter of the Horizon Group is divorced, has a child, and is over ten years older than Albert."

"So what? After marrying her and gaining wealth, he can have any woman he wants."

David's heart sank. He forced a smile and blurted out, "Like you?"

James's face darkened instantly. He glared at David. "David, I thought you were different from Albert. How did you become so irrational after a few years abroad?"

Seeing James was furious, Lisa, who had been watching the drama, quickly brought him a glass of water and patted his back to calm him down.

"James, David just got back. Don't get angry with him. Your health is important."

Lisa still appeared understanding, and David, seeing their harmonious interaction, suppressed his urge to explode.

Lisa had been trying to conceive through IVF for years. If she succeeded and Albert wasn't interested, the Valdemar family's assets might not go to Albert at all.

David took a deep breath, knowing his responsibility clearly.

"I'm sorry, Dad. I misspoke." David lowered his head, his eyelashes casting shadows on his lower eyelids.

James drank the water and handed the glass back to Lisa.

"David, that girl works at the Luken Branch of North Airlines, right?"

David's eyelashes trembled slightly, but he still hid his emotions.

"She's not important. Don't worry about her."

James, being a businessman for so long, naturally became suspicious of David's reaction.

He gave David a meaningful look. "Why are you defending her so much? Do you know her?"

David's Adam's apple bobbed slightly. "No, I just think with her background, we don't need to get involved."

James glanced at David, half-believing, and waved his hand. "Alright, it's late. Go back to your room and rest."

"Okay."

David turned and walked back to his room, his steps still heavy.

Albert took off his uniform and threw it into the laundry basket. He walked into the shower, letting the cold water calm his mind.

He couldn't stop thinking about Yvette and David standing face to face, both smiling.

The gentle and close expression on her face was indeed a bit glaring.

After showering, Albert walked out of the bathroom. The room was dark, with only a faint light coming from the bathroom.

It was late. Yvette and David had dinner together; he didn't know if she was home yet.

Thinking of this, Albert felt even more irritated. He threw down the towel and got dressed to go out.

In the middle of the night, the door was knocked, startling Yvette. She put on her robe and cautiously walked to the door. "Who is it?"

"It's me."

Albert's deep voice came from outside the door, and Yvette was stunned, not reacting for a moment.

Lassie, sleepy-eyed, walked out of the room. "Who is it?"

"Mom, it's me, Albert."

Lassie was also stunned. "Albert?"

Lassie quickly ran over, completely ignoring the stiff Yvette by the door, and opened the door for Albert.

"Come in!" Lassie rubbed her eyes. "Why are you here so late?"

Albert, carrying gifts, walked in and changed into slippers, his gaze never leaving Yvette.

Lassie quickly took the gifts. "Why did you bring so many supplements? Are you here to see Yvette?"

"I just finished a flight." Albert pursed his lips. "Yvette left something in my car, so I brought it over."

Yvette looked at him, puzzled. "What did I leave?"

Albert reached into his pocket and then opened his palm.

In his palm was one of Yvette's hair ties.

Yvette and Lassie were both stunned, instinctively exchanging a glance.

It was obvious that Albert was just making an excuse to come over.

Yvette furrowed her brows, dissatisfied with his late-night visit without prior call. She crossed her arms and said, "It's late. If you have something to say, let's talk in my room so Mom can rest."

Albert nodded and obediently followed Yvette into her room.

Yvette looked up, expressionless, and asked him, "What do you really want? It's just the two of us here; there's no need for excuses."

Albert stood straight, looking down at her, his tone serious. "Are you close with David?"
