Chapter 271 News About Yvette!
Albert stood there like a statue for a good two minutes before snapping back to reality and grabbing the documents from Vincent's hand.
On the black-and-white ultrasound, the baby's shadow was clear as day. Albert, a bit dazed, reached out to touch it and couldn't help but smile.
He always thought he wasn't the kid-loving type, but right now, he felt a joy he'd never known.
Albert's throat tightened as he asked, almost in disbelief, "Is this our baby?"
"Yeah," Vincent's voice was tense. "Mrs. Valdemar jumped from such a high bridge. Forget about the baby; it's still up in the air if she can make it."
Albert looked up, finally snapping out of his dream-like state.
Yvette's life was still hanging by a thread, let alone the baby's.
Albert looked at Vincent, confused. "I instructed you to locate her at all costs, yet we've combed through the river depths and its surroundings for miles. Why haven't we found her?"
Vincent saw the lost look in Albert's eyes and felt a pang of sympathy. "Maybe Mrs. Valdemar was rescued?"
Albert's face twisted with bitterness. He prayed for Yvette's rescue, content with their safety even if he never saw them again.
Albert, typically known for his upright posture, now slouched even further. "Let's go, let's keep looking for her."
"Okay."
After over a month of working by day and searching by night, Albert was exhausted from yet another fruitless night.
The next morning, Albert sat in his office, holding the documents he had found in the locked drawer the day before.
It finally clicked. Yvette had signed the prenuptial agreement to invalidate the pact she had made with James. If Yvette received nothing, her arrangement with James would be rendered worthless.
She had always been trying to protect him.
But what about him? He had even deliberately said in front of Yvette that if she got pregnant, he would personally take her to get an abortion.
Albert could almost imagine Yvette's emotions upon discovering her pregnancy: joy mixed with fear.
Afraid that he really wouldn't welcome the child and would cruelly take her to get an abortion.
Albert closed his eyes in despair. He regretted what he had said to Yvette. He not only wanted her and the baby to be alive but also to find them and make up for his mistakes!
Linda called, "Mr. Valdemar, the meeting is about to start."
"I know." Albert suppressed his emotions and carefully placed the documents back in the drawer.
In the conference room, the Valdemar Group's top brass briefed on the company's current status.
Albert fiddled with his phone, looking serious.
His distracted demeanor irked shareholders. One sarcastically quipped, "I don't see any updates on the Valdemar Group's status. If Yvette remains missing, things will inevitably shift for the company."
Albert looked up when Yvette's name was brought up. "You're spot on. If we can't locate her, I might just bankrupt the Valdemar Group in her honor."
Bishop swiftly interjected, "Albert's already in a foul mood. Let's not stir the pot further with upsetting remarks!"
The phone rang, and seeing it was Vincent, Albert immediately answered.
Vincent's excited voice came through the phone. "Mr. Valdemar, we've found someone who might be Mrs. Valdemar!"
Albert knocked on the table, his expression serious. "Meeting adjourned."
Amid the astonished looks from everyone, Albert left the conference room without a backward glance.
It wasn't peak traffic time, but precisely when Albert was feeling anxious, the expansive overpass was at a standstill.
Cars were neatly queued, brake lights aglow, and the incessant honking only served to further agitate Albert.
Albert sat in the car, tapping his fingers lightly on the door handle.
Milton glanced at Albert several times through the rearview mirror, looking hesitant and wanting to speak.
Seeing Albert just staring expressionlessly out the window, Milton cast a pleading look at Vincent in the front passenger seat.
Vincent was also unnerved by Albert's seemingly calm demeanor. He nervously tried to reassure him, "Don't worry, the doctors there will wait for you."
Albert's chiseled side profile tightened slightly, and without hesitation, he opened the car door.
Vincent was shocked; this was an overpass!
Seeing Albert striding away, Vincent had no choice but to follow.
Fortunately, they were at the point where the overpass descended, and the traffic was almost at a standstill. Vincent weaved through a few car hoods and finally caught up with Albert.
"Mr. Valdemar, I'll go with you."
When Albert arrived, the hospital staff were already on high alert, lined up at the ward door. Though curious, no one dared to ask questions.
Albert strode over and stood at the door of the ward.
His usually serious expression finally changed.
He clenched his fists, looking at the closed ward door, his muscles slightly tensed.
Seeing the sweat on Albert's forehead, everyone exchanged a glance.
Vincent stepped forward. "What's the situation?"
The lead doctor clasped his hands, looking at Albert's face, and cautiously said, "The patient's condition inside is relatively stable. You don't need to worry."
Vincent asked, "Where was she found?"
"Downstream of the river you mentioned. A fisherman saw her struggling in the river and rescued her. After performing emergency measures, she remained unconscious and was sent to a clinic."
Vincent asked, "Does the timeline match?"
He nodded. "Yes. She was rescued over a month ago and treated at the clinic. She was rarely conscious, couldn't say who she was, and didn't recognize anyone, showing signs of amnesia. Because her condition didn't get better and the clinic couldn't help, she was moved to our hospital."
Vincent frowned. "What do you mean by her condition not improving?"
"Don't worry, her body is actually fine. The main issue is her severe memory loss." The doctor glanced at Albert, intimidated by his intense aura, and got straight to the point. "Based on the description of her features, body shape, and even hairstyle, she closely matches the person Mr. Valdemar is looking for, so we notified you first."
Albert's face darkened, but he had no patience to listen further. He said in a deep voice, "Where is she?"
The doctors and nurses immediately stepped back, making way for Albert. "Inside."
