Chapter 430 Yvette's Weakness

"Have you figured it out?"

Albert's voice was steady and deep, like it came from the depths of a cold abyss. Each word he spoke was calm and stern.

Yvette paused mid-bite, her hand shaking slightly as she held the fork. "Yeah."

She pushed the food around on her plate, finding it tasteless.

Albert watched her with cold, unwavering eyes, silently pressuring her to eat.

Despite the greasy smell making her feel nauseous and her stomach protesting, Yvette forced herself to continue eating under Albert's gaze.

Only when he saw her finish the food did the icy hardness in Albert's eyes soften slightly.

"That's more like it. Following orders."

Yvette heard the satisfaction in his voice and saw the faint hint of gentleness in his eyes, but all she felt was a deep sense of desolation.

She nodded perfunctorily. "I will."

Albert raised his hand and gently patted her head as if to affirm her behavior.

Yvette's body stiffened, but she resisted the urge to pull away.

Beatrice was right. She was no longer in a position to harm herself recklessly. Albert wouldn't feel sorry for her; only those who loved her, like BoBo and CiCi, would.

She had to stay safe and healthy to return home, to stay with them, and to find a way to leave with the kids.

Yes, she had to leave.

Leave this unpredictable man who never trusted her, Albert.

Hoping to live peacefully with him was nothing but a foolish dream.

She could only rely on herself.

With that thought, Yvette pushed her bowl aside and ladled herself another bowl of soup.

The warm soup soothed her uneasy stomach.

Yvette put the empty bowl down, having finished all the soup.

Albert's lips curled in satisfaction as he dialed the bodyguard's number. "Bring Miss Evans here."

Yvette was taken aback and looked at him in surprise.

Albert glanced at her. "A reward."

Yvette suddenly remembered Sylvia's mom's dog.

Sylvia said that when training her dog, she would punish it by locking it up when it did something wrong so that it would know its mistake. When it did something right, she would praise it and give it a treat. The dog quickly learned many tricks and became very obedient.

It was just like what Albert was doing to her now.

Sylvia's eyes were red and puffy as she stared at her suitcase and phone, feeling troubled.

After a long time, she finally picked up the phone.

The person on the other end answered quickly, their voice filled with anger. "Sylvia, what the hell? Are you coming or not?"

Sylvia sniffled, her voice muffled and tearful. "Mr. Anderson, I might not be able to leave. I need to take a few days off."

"You're not leaving?" Atlas sounded shocked.

"Yeah, I can't leave. My friend is having some issues at the estate, and I want to stay with her."

Thinking about Yvette's situation, Sylvia's tears welled up again. She couldn't imagine what Yvette had been through all these years and deeply regretted her initial harsh judgment of Yvette.

She hadn't paid enough attention to Yvette before, not knowing the hell she was living in.

Now that she knew, she wanted to stay with her, even if it meant just being at the estate, even if she couldn't see Yvette.

"Your friend? You mean Mr. Valdemar's wife?" Mr. Anderson was incredulous. "That's Mr. Valdemar's wife. What problem could he not solve that needs little Sylvia to fix?"

Sylvia almost cursed out loud. Who would have thought that the CEO of the Valdemar Group couldn't solve his wife's problems and he was, in fact, her biggest problem?

Sylvia bit her lip, gripped the handle of her suitcase tightly, and started crying again. "Mr. Anderson, this is really important. I'll buy my own ticket back. There is no need for the hospital to reimburse me. You can dock a month's pay if you want..."

"Fine, fine!" Atlas said, annoyed. "I'll give you three days. Handle your business and come back as soon as possible. If you're late, write your resignation letter!"

"Thank you, Mr. Anderson..."

Sylvia hung up and looked at her suitcase, feeling troubled.

She was staying, but she couldn't even see Yvette.

Just then, someone knocked on her door.

Sylvia was surprised. Who would come looking for her at the estate in a foreign country? Could it be Yvette?

Sylvia jumped up from her chair and went to open the door, but it was Albert's burly bodyguards.

Sylvia was startled and defensive. "What do you want?"

"Miss Evans, please don't misunderstand," the bodyguard explained. "Mr. Valdemar asked us to invite you."

"Invite me?" Sylvia was confused and panicked. "Is something wrong with Yvette?"

"Don't worry. Mr. Valdemar just wants you to accompany Mrs. Valdemar to relax."

Sylvia ran to Yvette's room, panting as she carefully pushed the door open.

This time, no one stopped her, and she entered smoothly.

Sylvia was about to head to the bedroom to find Yvette when she heard a woman's voice in the kitchen, seemingly on the phone.

"Mr. Valdemar, I did as you asked and persuaded Mrs. Valdemar. She ate for the kids. Can you please not make me leave the Valdemar Family?"

Hearing this, Sylvia felt a pang of sorrow.

It seemed Yvette had been using a hunger strike to resist Albert's confinement...

Sylvia frowned and pushed open Yvette's bedroom door.

Hearing the noise, Yvette turned around and saw Sylvia, like a little cat, darting in and rushing into her arms.

Sylvia's warm body pressed against Yvette's cold skin.

Yvette's nose tingled. "Sylvia, weren't you supposed to go back today?"

"I'm not going!" Sylvia sniffled, on the verge of tears. "I want to stay with you, Yvette."

Yvette blinked. "Thank you, Sylvia."

"Please don't hurt yourself anymore, okay?" Sylvia gently patted Yvette's back. "Even Albert knows that you need to eat well, at least for the kids."

Yvette was stunned. "Albert?"

"Yes, that maid in the kitchen, right? She said she was following Albert's instructions to persuade you..."

Sylvia's words faded as Yvette's mind raced.

So, Albert knew her weakness all along.
