Chapter 119 James Wants Albert to Get a Divorce
Yvette got home, and Lassie kept sneaking guilty glances at her.
"Are you still mad?" Lassie asked.
Yvette snapped, "How could you just ask someone for their things? If I hadn't found out, we'd owe a huge favor!"
Lassie frowned, looking hurt. "I just thought his watch was nice and asked where he got it. I wanted to buy one too. I only asked if it was expensive, nothing more."
"It's a men's watch, and you want to buy it? For Wayne?" Yvette's chest heaved. "Do you even know what kind of watch that is?"
"He said it wasn't very expensive." Lassie saw Yvette's angry face and felt guilty. "How was I supposed to know he'd just leave the watch without a word?"
"When you ask like that, especially as an older person, doesn't it imply you want him to give it to you?"
Yvette's words made Lassie feel both wronged and angry. "No matter how out of line I am, I wouldn't randomly ask my son-in-law's brother for things!"
Seeing Lassie genuinely upset, Yvette calmed down a bit and sighed. "You need to be more careful with your words. He was just borrowing the restroom and came to our house temporarily. He already felt awkward for not bringing a gift, and you basically asked him for it."
Lassie glanced at Yvette indifferently and whispered, "I actually think he has other intentions."
"What do you mean?"
"I feel like he definitely likes you. Yvette, just go with what I'm saying and keep your distance from him. They're twins, and it would be scandalous if this got out!"
Yvette instantly became impatient. "You have quite the wild imagination!"
With that, Yvette couldn't be bothered to argue anymore and walked to her room.
Lassie quickly added, "You should tell Albert that David came to the house. You have to tell him!"
Yvette didn't pause for a second and walked straight into her room, slamming the door shut.
Yvette thought, 'There's no need to tell Albert about this. He wouldn't care anyway.'
The car started and sped forward, disappearing into the night.
David returned home, his face still clouded with gloom. He walked into the Valdemar Mansion, the luxurious chandelier overhead casting a cold light on him.
David walked silently inside, and in the living room, James was angrily scolding Lisa.
However, his anger was directed at David.
"David returned to the country, but we don't know where he went. It was a daytime flight, and it's so late, and he still hasn't come back!"
David paused, quietly listening to their conversation.
"Didn't he say he was going to see Albert?"
"That's what makes me mad!" James raised his voice, "He came back and didn't come to see us first, but went to see Albert!"
David pressed his lips together. He knew that his father still resented Albert for not returning to the Valdemar family.
But Albert was his biological brother; they had shared the same womb for nine months.
Lisa gently comforted, "Don't be too angry. David grew up with his mom and Albert, and later lived with his grandparents, so he's naturally closer to them. When we brought him back, he was already grown up, so naturally..."
Before Lisa could finish, a passing servant noticed David and greeted, "Mr. David? You're back?"
Lisa's voice abruptly stopped, and when she turned around, the panic in her eyes was already hidden.
"David's back!" Lisa shook James, her tone rising. "James, David's back!"
She looked genuinely excited, like a mother happy to see her child return home.
"Dad, Aunt Moore." David nodded slightly to the two of them.
James gave David a cold look. "You finally decided to come back."
"If he doesn't come home, you worry, and when he does, you say words like that." Lisa lightly hit James. "David, you must be tired from the journey. I've had the servants clean your room, so you can rest right away."
David was usually good at playing along with Lisa, but today he couldn't muster the interest and even felt impatient.
He wished he could rebel like Albert.
But he was David, and he couldn't do it.
David frowned. "Thank you. Sorry, I'm really tired today. I'll go rest now."
"Wait!" James called out coldly.
David paused, waiting quietly for what he would say next.
"Did you know Albert got married?"
David's jaw tightened, and he even stopped breathing for a moment. His Adam's apple bobbed, and after a moment, he spoke in a dry voice.
"I just found out."
"He's being ridiculous!" James raged, walking up to David. "David, don't you think he's fooling around?"
David looked at James's slightly flushed face and replied, "Yes."
David's agreement finally allowed James to vent his pent-up anger.
"Now that your grandfather's health is failing, it's a critical time for settling the estate, and he's acting crazy!"
David's eyes darkened, and he calmly said, "Now that he's married and his wife is pregnant, isn't that a good thing? This will be the Valdemar family's first grandchild."
"Having a child doesn't mean anything. Do you think your grandfather will split the inheritance according to the number of people? In a family like ours, we have to maximize benefits!" James clenched his fists, gritting his teeth. "Albert actually married a girl from an ordinary family. Do you think your uncles will care?"
Hearing James's constant belittling of Yvette, David's eyebrows furrowed slightly, but he quickly smoothed them out.
"As long as the child is born, it doesn't matter if they care, as long as Grandpa cares."
"The child's mother adds no value to the family business. Your grandfather won't care. He wants to distribute the company he worked so hard to build among us, so he will consider what's best for the business!" James angrily slapped his thigh. "I only have you to help me, and Albert is causing trouble!"
David glanced at Lisa. "Dad, you should trust that Aunt Moore will help you."
Lisa's face turned pale. Even though David was openly criticizing her for not having children all these years, she didn't dare say anything.
Sure enough, James glanced at Lisa irritably, didn't respond, and continued. "Actually, the Swift family once proposed a marriage alliance, but I didn't agree. With a company of that small scale, they still wanted to marry into the Valdemar family, dreaming of marrying Albert. But I never expected Albert to marry someone even more humble!"
"Dad." David didn't want to hear James speak about Yvette like that anymore and interrupted, "What do you plan to do?"
"Me?" James snorted coldly. "I want Albert to get a divorce!"
