Chapter 610 Violet: Not Even Up to Yvette's Standard!
David's brow furrowed, his expression flickering with unease. "Of course I wouldn't stand by and watch, but I would never resort to violence."
Each of David's words detonated like a bomb across the scene. He was deliberately amplifying the controversy, as if using these cameras to broadcast to the world just how despicable Albert truly was.
"Enough, David. I'm fine." Violet dabbed at the tears on her cheeks, casting a deliberately pitiful glance at the cameras before addressing David. "Albert probably just misunderstood and thought I was going to hurt Yvette. He was worried and acted impulsively. We should be more understanding. With so many people watching, let's not make a scene."
She then turned to Yvette with feigned sincerity. "Yvette, let me clarify—I truly had no intention of hitting or bullying you. I was only trying to help."
Violet's eyes brimmed with apparent honesty, as if every word she spoke was gospel truth.
The onlookers naturally knew Violet wasn't genuinely kindhearted, but since they'd only rushed over for the drama and missed the initial confrontation, they could only piece together the truth from the dialogue unfolding before them.
"Then let me clarify as well." Yvette's expression hardened as she fixed her gaze on Violet, speaking both to her and to the cameras surrounding them. "I don't need your help because we each have our own responsibilities. Your behavior caused my husband to misunderstand and intervene to protect me—nothing more. This is a charity gala, not your personal stage."
Yvette's words left both David and Violet visibly shaken. She was essentially telling the world that David and Violet were putting on an act.
They'd assumed that someone like Albert, who typically avoided explanations, would fall into their trap. Neither had anticipated Yvette's razor-sharp wit.
As the tension between the four of them thickened, the spectators grew increasingly excited. David realized it was time to retreat—otherwise, he'd fail to achieve his goal and become a laughingstock.
Taking a deep breath, he said slowly, "Albert, as long as you're willing to get along with us, we can pretend this never happened."
Yvette shot David a disapproving look. "We've always been willing to get along, provided your fiancée stops her little schemes."
She cast a warning glance at Violet, her chest rising and falling as if she might faint from emotional distress at any moment.
If she collapsed here and "accidentally" revealed details about Violet and the fire incident, they'd lose more than they'd gain.
At this thought, Violet finally took a deep breath, suppressing her emotions and forcing a smile. "Oh Yvette, what are you saying? Since I want to become part of the Valdemar family, of course I want to get along with everyone."
She patted David's back soothingly. "It's okay, David. I'm really fine. Once I marry into the Valdemar family, Yvette and I will be sisters-in-law. I'll need her guidance on how to get along with the family elders. Since I'm unharmed, let's just forget this happened, okay?"
David pressed his lips together, glancing back at Violet.
When he didn't respond, Violet playfully tugged at his arm. "Just this once, please?"
Only then did David relent. "Fine. Whatever you want."
The entire debacle left the Valdemar family in turmoil.
This was the Valdemar family's most prestigious annual gala, a meaningful charity event designed to build and maintain their positive public image.
But after this fiasco, the entire venue reeked of scandal, and the Valdemar Group's PR team was working overtime, their keyboards practically smoking.
Knowing the whole mess stemmed from Violet's sudden public relationship announcement, the Valdemar family members were growing restless.
Bishop clasped his hands behind his back, his face etched with disappointment. "David has always been obedient and well-behaved. What's gotten into him? Causing such a scene at such an important event!"
"Exactly! How do you go from a charity-focused event to suddenly announcing a relationship and creating this chaos?"
"No warning whatsoever—completely blindsided us. Even our PR team had to scramble."
"Both of James's sons are giving us headaches!"
As several family members voiced their frustrations, Albert's aunt Sofia and her husband Hugo approached. "Are you discussing the brothers' situation too?" they asked.
"Yes." Bishop sighed. "David's behavior this time is absolutely baffling."
Sofia let out a cold laugh. "I've been saying all along that James's two sons are unreliable, but none of you listened. And now? With the Valdemar Group under Albert's control and news of their feud spreading, the company's stock price will likely suffer. None of you will escape the fallout—you'll all be busy cleaning up this mess!"
Mario shot Sofia an irritated glare. "You've really lost all sense of family loyalty since marrying out, haven't you? When the Valdemar Group prospers, you want your share. Now that the brothers have created this mess, instead of helping, you're standing on the sidelines mocking us."
Hugo bristled. "Mario, that's unfair. We're not mocking—we're offering constructive advice. Of course we want the Valdemar family to thrive."
"Regardless, David's behavior has been shocking. We need to prepare ourselves mentally," Mario said.
"Prepare for what?" Bishop asked, puzzled.
Mario sighed heavily, his face creased with worry. "For David to act so irrationally, he must be completely infatuated with Violet. Otherwise, he wouldn't defy everyone's wishes and act so recklessly. Both of James's sons are being manipulated by women."
Reflecting on the tangled history between Albert, David, Yvette, and Violet, everyone felt a collective sense of dismay.
Both Albert and David possessed rare combinations of looks and intelligence, yet they'd been undone by matters of the heart.
Just then, Sabrina snorted derisively, gazing at the group at the center of the controversy and muttering bitterly.
"Letting that bitch into the family—David's completely lost his mind!" Sabrina spat venomously. "At least Yvette was pregnant with a Valdemar child. But Violet? She was carrying that bastard Rodolfo's baby. If you ask me, Violet is even worse than Yvette!"
