Chapter 135 Sudden Change

The loud, chaotic footsteps echoed through the quiet top-floor corridor.

The secretary was startled to see Albert storming over but stood up to stop him. "Mr. David Valdemar, if you want to see Mr. James Valdemar, please make an appointment. Without the Chairman's consent, I can't let you in."

Albert knew he was being mistaken for David again. He shot the secretary an impatient, cold look. "I'm here to see James."

The secretary was in a tough spot but couldn't muster the courage to stop him under that intense stare.

'Today's CEO David is nothing like his usual gentle self,' the secretary thought, feeling a bit scared.

Seeing the secretary no longer blocking him, Albert rushed to the Chairman's office and pushed the door open.

To his surprise, James wasn't there. Instead, Lisa was leisurely tidying up James's desk.

Albert wasn't gentle, and the door slammed loudly. Lisa looked up, and the secretary followed nervously, saying, "Sorry, Mr. David barged in. I couldn't stop him."

Lisa raised her hand. "It's okay, you can leave."

After the secretary left, Lisa looked at him in surprise. "David? Weren't you supposed to be at the hospital? Why are you back?"

"Hospital? Why would I go to the hospital? What's wrong with James?"

Lisa was stunned and then realized the man in front of her wasn't David.

"You're Albert?" Lisa lowered her eyes, rubbing her fingertips, carefully choosing her words. "It's not James who needs to go to the hospital."

"Then who does? And why do both James and David need to take them?" Albert felt a bad premonition.

"Here's the thing, Albert." Lisa shook her head, looking helpless. "Yvette stormed into your dad's office, made him so angry he had heart discomfort and clutched his chest for a long time."

Albert asked coldly, "And then?"

"Then, I don't know what was said, but she suddenly pretended to faint." Lisa sighed. "James and David were worried, so they took her to the hospital for a check-up."

Albert's jaw tightened, and he clenched his fists, barely restraining the urge to punch Lisa.

"Lisa, your ability to twist the truth is impressive. But I know what kind of person James is and what kind of person Yvette is."

Lisa said, "How can you say that about me? Albert, I'm seriously explaining to you."

"You think I'll believe you?" Albert's eyes were fierce, his aura as cold as winter frost. "I warn you, if anything happens to Yvette and the baby, I won't let you off."

Albert gave Lisa a cold glance and left the Chairman's office.

The emergency room was filled with the mixed smell of disinfectant and medicine, extremely pungent.

David frowned, staring at Yvette's pale face on the hospital bed.

Her face was small, and now it looked even smaller, pale to the point of heartache.

David placed his hand on his chest, his heart still racing from the scare.

When Yvette collapsed, he was terrified, feeling like his heart almost skipped a beat.

In that instant, David rushed over, catching Yvette before she hit the ground, anxiously looking at James and Lisa. He almost shouted, "Dad, call 911! Yvette fainted!"

"How did she faint?" James frowned, looking impatient. "Lisa, call 911 quickly. If something really happens, Albert will make a fuss again!"

Lisa nodded, still maintaining her elegant demeanor, slowly taking out her phone. "Don't worry, she might just be a bit anxious, not really fainted, it's okay."

Then, Lisa called 911, unhurriedly giving the location, showing no urgency.

Their indifference made David tremble all over.

David wondered, 'Were they this cold and indifferent when Mom passed away?'

The harder he tried to quickly carry Yvette downstairs to save time for the ambulance, the more he hated James and Lisa's indifference.

David was lost in his memories when the curtain in the cubicle was suddenly pulled open. "Family of Yvette, come over here."

David responded, "Okay, coming."

He turned back to look at Yvette worriedly, then followed the doctor out, not noticing that Yvette on the bed had already woken up and slowly opened her eyes.

David stood face to face with the doctor.

The doctor looked displeased and asked somewhat reproachfully, "Has she not been having regular prenatal check-ups?"

David was taken aback. "What's wrong?"

"Her condition is not good now. If she had been getting regular check-ups, this could have been prevented." The doctor frowned and said, "How far long is she? Has it been more than nine weeks?"

David was flustered. "I don't know."

"Then what kind of husband and father are you? She's also being careless, not keeping up regular check-ups even while carrying a baby!" The doctor said angrily, "Go home and check the records, see how many weeks the previous doctor estimated, and then compare it with the time you had sex to confirm. Let me know as soon as possible so I can arrange the subsequent check-ups."

David's face showed a trace of embarrassment. "Sorry, doctor, I'm not her husband, so I really don't know these things. I need to ask."

The doctor waved his hand. "Then find her family and have them come over!"

"I'm family, just not her husband." David pursed his lips. "I'll contact them now."

Yvette blinked. She knew all the answers the doctor mentioned, but the family member David could find knew nothing.

Yvette bit her lip, struggling to sit up from the bed, slowly getting out of bed to put on her shoes, and got up to walk out.

She raised her hand, just about to lift the curtain, when she heard the doctor continue speaking outside.

The doctor said regretfully, "Tell her husband that if there's no fetal heartbeat or growth after ten weeks, we strongly recommend ending this pregnancy. We need to take this seriously and operate soon, or it's gonna be a real mess later."

Yvette's hand froze in mid-air.
