Chapter 238 Cheryl's Advice

The phone rang, and Yvette, feeling sore all over, slowly got up to answer it.

Albert always got way too rough after he'd been drinking.

Yvette picked up the phone, her voice a bit weak, "Who is this?"

The servant on the other end said, "Mrs. Valdemar, Mr. Valdemar's assistant is downstairs. Can he come up to the study to talk?"

Yvette instinctively replied, "Sorry, Albert's not in."

The servant responded, "Yes, but Vincent said he needs to discuss something with you."

"With me?" Yvette was surprised but agreed, "Alright, let him come up."

Five minutes later, there was a knock on the study door.

Yvette opened it to see a man with black-rimmed glasses and a gentle demeanor.

"Mrs. Valdemar, hello, I'm Vincent, Mr. Valdemar's assistant," he said.

"Hello," Yvette nodded.

She didn't say anything else, and Vincent hesitated, looking at her calm face, unsure how to start.

Noticing his unease, Yvette felt puzzled but had a slight guess.

Since he was Albert's assistant, it must be something Albert wanted to tell her.

After a brief pause, Vincent cautiously mentioned, "Mrs. Valdemar, I have your medication here. Remember to take it daily as prescribed."

He took out two boxes of medicine from his bag but didn't hand them over immediately.

Yvette, puzzled, reached out to take them. As soon as she did, she realized why Vincent had been so cautious.

They were birth control pills.

Yvette's throat tightened, and she stared at the medicine box. The sunlight in the study made the box shine brightly, almost blindingly.

She nodded, looking at Vincent with a normal expression, "Okay, thank you, Vincent."

He was just following Albert's orders, so there was no need to make it hard for him.

Vincent didn't say much more, but the look he gave her before leaving made Yvette laugh bitterly.

It seemed everyone pitied her.

After Vincent left, Yvette took the medicine box back to her room.

She opened the box, read the instructions, found today's pill, and swallowed it with water as directed for daily intake.

That tiny pill was hard for Yvette to swallow. Even with water, it felt like a fishbone stuck in her throat, but she had to swallow it.

Cheryl walked into the kitchen, smelling a faint medicinal scent. She saw the servant making Yvette's daily tonic soup.

Seeing Cheryl, the servant smiled, "The tonic soup you make whip up every day might just pay off."

The pot was bubbling with tonic soup, which Cheryl had the servant make for Yvette daily. It was meant to nourish her and help with pregnancy.

Cheryl asked, "What do you mean?"

"Even though Albert was out last night, he brought Yvette back and they spent quite a while in the room," the servant hinted, smirking. "I was doing my rounds and overheard... you know."

Cheryl looked pleasantly surprised, "Really?"

"Yes! Well, let me congratulate you in advance," the servant continued. "They're both young, and with you sending tonic soup to Yvette and supplements to Albert, Yvette will surely get pregnant soon!"

The more Cheryl listened, the happier she got. "Alright, hurry up and finish the soup. I'll take it up today."

"Okay."

Carrying the packed tonic soup, Cheryl walked out of the kitchen. As she passed through the living room, she ran into Lisa.

Lisa smiled gently, her eyes falling on the tonic soup in Cheryl's hands. "Where are you going with that?"

"Taking soup to Yvette." Cheryl replied, never really warming up to Lisa. She gave her a casual glance before heading upstairs.

But Lisa seemed interested and followed Cheryl. She reached out to help press the elevator button and tried to take the soup from Cheryl's hands. "Let me help you. But this tonic soup might not be very effective for Yvette. She had an abortion and needs to recuperate well first. I know some renowned doctors who can treat infertility."

Cheryl frowned, pulling her hand back to keep Lisa from taking the soup.

Lisa's eyes narrowed with a smile. "This should be approached scientifically. When I have time, I'll take Yvette to the hospital for a full check-up—reproductive system, hormone levels, and all that. After all, an abortion might have caused some damage. Following the check-up, she can start a systematic regimen of medications and supplements."

Lisa's harsh words grated on Cheryl's ears, fueling her existing resentment towards Lisa for breaking up James's family and causing Albert and David to suffer, intensifying Cheryl's displeasure.

From what Lisa said, it was clear she was mocking Yvette's fertility.

Cheryl sneered, looking Lisa up and down without any courtesy. "How can a woman who has been married for years without having a child dare to give me advice? Yvette has been pregnant before, which means her fertility is fine. But even with technological help, you haven't succeeded, so don't come and torment Yvette."

Lisa's expression stiffened, her face darkening, but she still didn't dare show her displeasure in front of Cheryl. "What are you saying? I'm just thinking of Yvette's well-being."

Cheryl responded coldly, "Try getting pregnant yourself first, then maybe I'll take your advice."

There was a knock on the door, and Yvette called out, "Who is it?"

"It's me, Yvette," Cheryl's voice came from outside the door.

Yvette was startled, quickly turning to put the long-acting birth control pills into the locked drawer of the bedside table.

She cleared her throat and hurriedly got up to open the door.

Cheryl came in with the tonic soup. "Today's soup is ready. Drink it; it's good for your health."

"Thank you." Yvette obediently nodded, taking the soup and letting Cheryl in.

The two sat down on the sofa. Cheryl opened the lid of the tonic soup and pushed it in front of Yvette.

Seeing Yvette pick up the spoon and start drinking, Cheryl smiled with satisfaction. "Yvette, this tonic soup should be effective, right? You guys were pretty noisy last night. Does that mean a baby is on the way?"

Yvette was stunned, a faint blush rising on her face.

Cheryl went on, "I know Albert has a bit of a temper, but don't worry, once you're pregnant, he'll be good to you."

Yvette paused in her drinking, thinking of the birth control pills in the drawer, and smiled bitterly. "Got it."
