Chapter 537 Accompany Yvette to Sleep

Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains, casting bright patches across the hospital room floor. The recent warming weather made the sunshine feel gentle and comforting against the skin.

Feeling the soft rays on her face, and having finally lifted the heavy burden from her heart, Yvette felt completely relaxed. She lay in bed, her long hair spilling across the pillow like silk.

Albert sat beside her bed, one hand clasping hers tightly while the other gently stroked her hair. His eyes were filled with concern and unspoken love. "How are you feeling after the tests?"

Yvette smiled and shook her head. "I'm fine. I know my own body."

Albert smiled back. "If everything's okay, I'll bring BoBo and CiCi over to keep you company later."

"Don't bring them to the hospital—there are too many viruses going around," Yvette blinked. "If the test results are fine, just take me home. I don't want to waste my time here when I could be with the children."

"Alright."

Albert reached up to touch her pale cheek, about to let her rest when the door opened. Doyle entered carrying test results, dark circles under his eyes and obvious fatigue etched across his face.

Seeing Albert and Yvette's intimate moment, Doyle paused, pulling himself from his serious demeanor to look at them with exasperation. "You're here for medical treatment, not to flaunt your relationship in front of a single man."

Yvette felt embarrassed and turned her head away, avoiding Albert's touch. Albert shot Doyle an irritated glance, warning him to shut up.

Doyle cleared his throat with a clenched fist, pretending nothing had happened. Sensing the awkward atmosphere, Yvette spoke up. "Are my test results ready?"

"Yes." His expression grew serious again. "Yvette, I need to keep you here."

Albert frowned. "Are the results that bad?"

"Same as last time—no deterioration, but the indicators remain abnormal." Doyle looked at Yvette. "Since you're admitted, you need to stay in the hospital."

"What exactly is wrong with her?" Albert stared at Doyle intently. "If the indicators are abnormal, then find a way to treat it."

Doyle felt helpless. He opened his mouth but, feeling Yvette's watchful gaze, held back. "Abnormal indicators could mean many things. Without a definitive diagnosis, we can only manage the symptoms."

"I don't have many symptoms, just fatigue and weakness," Yvette said. "I'll listen to you and stay in the hospital."

Doyle understood her meaning—she would cooperate and stay hospitalized, and he would honor his promise to wait until she told Albert herself.

Doyle sighed helplessly. As a doctor, he had to respect patient privacy and wishes. As Albert's friend, he also had to consider their relationship and Albert's emotional state.

Unaware of the subtext, Albert grew frustrated seeing Doyle's hesitation. "Then find a way to make a diagnosis."

"Albert, give me a break!" Doyle pointed to his dark circles. "Do you see the exhaustion on my face? I stayed up all night researching. If there were an easy way to diagnose this, would I sacrifice my health pulling an all-nighter?"

Albert's expression changed. "Is it that serious?"

"Don't worry too much—we need to investigate systematically," Yvette said soothingly. "The doctor is more anxious about the diagnosis than anyone. Give him more time."

"Exactly! At least Yvette understands!"

Yvette looked at Albert with pleading eyes. "I used to get yelled at by patients' families too. Don't make it hard for Dr. Cunningham."

Seeing those eyes, Albert's heart immediately softened. He checked his watch. "I'll step out to make a call and have the children brought over to keep you company. Otherwise, they'll be asleep soon and it'll be hard to wake them."

"Thank you." Yvette smiled.

Albert couldn't help but smile back, gently ruffling her hair before leaving. Once Albert was gone, Doyle sighed. "I never expected Albert to care so much about those two children. Despite his busy work schedule and worrying about you, he still keeps track of their routines."

"Yes, he's very responsible."

Doyle's expression grew complex. "You should tell Albert soon. Your condition can't wait much longer. And he's investigating this matter—he's traced it back to Violet. He's probably not far from discovering the truth himself."

Yvette's face paled slightly. She knew that hearing it from her would be far less shocking than him discovering it on his own. She wanted to protect both the children and Albert.

Yvette received a video call from Sylvia. Seeing that Yvette was still safely alive, Sylvia broke down crying on the other end.

"I'm so unlucky to be your friend! My fragile heart will stop beating because of you someday!" After saying this, Sylvia sighed tearfully, looking at Yvette's pale face. "But you're the most pitiful one—why do you always encounter such awful situations?"

Yvette felt bitter, having asked herself the same question repeatedly without ever finding an answer.

"Enough of that—dwelling on it won't solve anything, just creates emotional exhaustion," Yvette said, her mood lifting slightly as she spoke to Sylvia with some excitement. "Sylvia, among those photos you sent back, there was one I had unconsciously hidden away—a picture of the children just after birth, taken before Christmas."

"Really? Did you show it to Albert?" Sylvia was instantly thrilled.

"Of course." Yvette smiled, the joy reaching her eyes. "He finally believes me."

"Good grief, Albert is really difficult!"

"Yes, but fortunately, he says he'll always believe me from now on."

As she spoke, Yvette's eyes slowly closed and she fell asleep. Watching Yvette's eyes close on screen, the display suddenly went black.

Sylvia jumped in alarm. "Yvette! Yvette! What's wrong?"

There was no response from the other end, and Sylvia panicked. "Yvette! Yvette!"

Suddenly, the screen shook and shifted, and Albert's devastatingly handsome face appeared on screen. Sylvia didn't even notice the anxious tears sliding down her cheeks as her breath caught in her chest, nearly choking her.

Sylvia swallowed nervously. "Mr. Valdemar, hello. What happened to Yvette?"

"She's weak and fell asleep," Albert said casually. "I'm going to hang up now and lie down with her."
