Chapter 116 I Married Albert
Yvette was caught off guard. She hadn't expected David to be clueless about her marriage to Albert.
Back then, the two brothers were very close. How could they not even tell each other about something as big as a marriage?
Thinking about the chilly, tense vibe between the brothers today, Yvette had a hunch. Something must've gone down to mess up their relationship.
No wonder Albert never mentioned David.
Yvette felt she should side with Albert, but looking at the kind David in front of her, she couldn't help but remember how good he'd been to her.
When Yvette was a kid, she was carefree and didn't worry about much. She remembered one summer day when she was having so much fun she forgot about her period.
David noticed the red stain on her pants right away and quietly called her over.
Yvette, clueless, blinked and walked over. "What's up?"
David smiled gently and put his hands on her shoulders. "Stand against the wall and don't move, okay?"
"Why?" Yvette was puzzled. She wanted to keep playing, not stand still.
"I'm going to the store."
"Get me a popsicle!" she said.
David smiled but didn't answer.
Yvette thought he agreed, but when he came back, he had a black bag.
He handed it to her. "Still want that popsicle? Aren't you uncomfortable?"
Yvette was stunned, then realized she was on her period and David had noticed.
She shrugged it off. In the village, no one paid much attention to her. She could just go home and change.
She glanced behind her but couldn't see the stain.
Suddenly, Yvette's wrist was grabbed, and before she knew it, she was spun around.
In her panic, she looked up and met Albert's intense gaze.
Her face turned red. She froze, forgetting to resist.
They stood face to face. Albert looked annoyed, took off his jacket, and wrapped it around her waist, covering the stain.
He tied the jacket and teased her. "Yvette, how can you be so clueless?"
Yvette's ears turned pink. She looked down, embarrassed and speechless.
David gently pushed Albert. "Don't embarrass her."
"Idiot," Albert muttered, roughly pulling her forward.
Yvette resisted. "Where are you taking me?"
"Home to change. Or do you want to keep playing in those pants?"
Yvette's eyes flickered. "Okay."
Albert grabbed her arm and led her home.
Yvette watched Albert's confident stride. The wind lifted his hair, and the sunlight shone through, casting a glow on her face.
The sunlight was blinding, and Yvette squinted. One hand was held by Albert, and the other covered her wildly beating heart.
Back to reality.
Yvette's eyes flickered.
If only she had liked David back then, things would have been so much better.
David was so gentle. Even if he didn't like her, he wouldn't hurt her so recklessly, right?
But fate is like this, irresistible. The one she liked had always been Albert.
Yvette looked up and met David's eyes. She didn't want to lie to him, "I married Albert."
David was stunned.
The plane landed smoothly, and after sending off the last passenger, it was already early morning.
Steve was a bit nervous. Today, Albert had a stern expression the entire time, making him constantly doubt if he had done something wrong. Even though he followed all the regulations, he still quailed.
Following Albert with the suitcase, he suddenly heard Violet's voice from behind.
"Albert!" Violet ran up, "It's late, and I didn't drive today. Can you give me a ride?"
Violet looked natural, as if nothing had happened before.
Albert glanced at her, his expression even darker, "Then take the bus."
Steve knew he was in a bad mood and definitely didn't want to take Violet home.
As Albert's co-pilot, his job was to solve problems for him. Steve immediately raised his hand and smiled, "I'll take her. Mr. Valdemar, you go home and rest early!"
Albert looked at Steve and gave him an approving glance, "Okay."
Steve immediately straightened his back, "Don't worry, I'll make sure she gets home safely."
Watching Albert decisively stride away, Violet almost bit her lower lip.
Steve said, "Let's go, I'll take you."
Violet forced a smile, "No need, I just remembered I didn't drive my car last time."
"Is this your place?"
"Yes." Yvette nodded, "Thank you for dinner and for bringing me home today. Next time it's my treat, you can order whatever you want."
"Sure, I won't be polite then." David smiled, "But I have something more urgent to take care of now."
"What's that?"
"Can I use your bathroom?"
Yvette was amused by his seriousness and nodded, "Of course."
Yvette led David upstairs and unlocked the door with her key. Inside, Lassie glanced at her.
Lassie's expressionless face lit up when she saw David behind her.
"Albert, you're here!"
Lassie immediately put down the dishcloth in her hand, wiped her hands on her scarf, and ran over with a smile, "Why didn't you say you were coming? I would have prepared something nice for you."
David was clearly startled by Lassie's enthusiasm. He turned to Yvette, his expression a bit stiff, clearly uncomfortable.
Lassie continued, "You helped a lot with the hospital the other day, and I haven't had a chance to thank you. Come in, stay the night, and Mom will make you a snack!"
Yvette met David's gaze and felt a bit awkward.
She quickly stepped forward, blocking David from Lassie, "Mom, you got the wrong person. This isn't Albert; it's his brother, David."
Lassie was immediately dumbfounded.
"Hello, ma'am. I'm Albert's brother, David."
David turned to Yvette, a mysterious light flashing in his eyes.
"All these years, you're the only one who can tell us apart."
