Chapter 426 Albert Raises the Child for You

David's words hit like a bomb, sending shockwaves through the room.

After a few seconds of stunned silence, the whispers started.

"Is this for real?"

"Whose wife is she, then?"

"Oh my God..."

Yvette suddenly realized this was a setup, a trap laid by Ingrid. Ingrid had been on her phone the whole time, likely texting David. Her sudden change in attitude was just to keep Yvette from leaving and enjoy her humiliation.

Yvette looked down, saying nothing.

The driver, unaware of the drama unfolding, kept talking, "I really miss them. It's been so long since I've seen them!"

Yvette's face darkened, but the driver didn't get it.

Yvette had always been the least pretentious of the wealthy wives, always kind and friendly to people like him, often helping them or chatting with them. That's why he felt comfortable bringing up the topic in such a setting.

But now, the woman in front of him, clearly David's wife, seemed off.

Before the driver could react, Yvette stood up from her chair.

She grabbed her bag and turned to leave.

At that moment, Ingrid, who had been watching the drama unfold, feigned innocence and curiously asked, "David, your kids must be adorable if the driver remembers them so fondly, right?"

Yvette paused mid-step, but it was too late to stop Ingrid.

Ingrid blinked and smiled. "David, with Albert taking care of your kids, you must have it easy!"

Ingrid's words caused another uproar among the guests.

Mabel was terrified. She knew that inviting David was undoubtedly her "good daughter" Ingrid's doing!

But she hadn't expected Ingrid to be bold enough to say such things in front of Yvette and David!

Now, Yvette was deeply offended!

Mabel quickly grabbed the luxury items she had bought and chased after Yvette, shoving them into her hands. "Yvette, I had no idea it would turn out like this. I'm really sorry! Please take these. I'll find another time to formally apologize to you! Please don't be mad at us!"

Yvette's expression was indifferent as she pushed the items away. "No need. I can't accept your apology."

She shot a cold glance at David. "I'll be telling Albert about what happened today. He needs to know what his sister did."

Mabel's face turned pale, and she was on the verge of tears. "Yvette, please don't! I'll make sure she never embarrasses you again!"

Mabel pleaded, but Yvette was done listening.

She shook off Mabel's hand. "I came here out of respect, hoping to keep the peace. But it seems your daughter doesn't want that."

Yvette walked out of here without looking back, leaving Mabel fuming.

Mabel shoved Ingrid, each push harder than the last, scolding her mercilessly, "You little brat, are you trying to drag our whole family down with you?"

Ingrid rubbed her sore arm, grinning. "Mom, don't you think this drama is entertaining? I want to see how that unfaithful woman dares to face Albert!"

"I'm going to tear that mouth of yours apart! Do you know how much trouble you've caused? If Albert gets angry, it won't just be our family; the entire Valdemar Group will be in jeopardy!" Mabel was frantic. "You better find a way to make her forgive you, or don't bother coming home!"

Ingrid shrugged nonchalantly. "We're all Valdemars. What's Albert going to do to me? And the Valdemar Group in jeopardy? Mom, you're exaggerating."

"He can do plenty to you! And to our family!" Mabel slapped her hard. "Albert offended Ms. Morgan for her. Who do you think you are?"

Yvette left the restaurant, the shocked and scrutinizing faces of the Valdemar family relatives flashing before her eyes.

Despite having faced countless such stares, she still couldn't handle them calmly.

"Wait." A male voice called out, and Yvette instinctively turned to look.

David's face was tense, his brows furrowed, and his eyes filled with nervousness.

He walked with difficulty toward Yvette, who frowned and turned to leave, but David grabbed her wrist. Yvette recoiled as if burned, quickly pulling her hand back.

David's face showed a fleeting look of discomfort. He panted slightly, trying to explain, "Yvette, if I told you I didn't know about any of this, would you believe me?"

David's eyes were sincere, with no hint of deceit.

But Yvette had seen that honest, earnest, and gentle look too many times and had been deceived too many times. She was immune to it now.

Yvette's gaze was indifferent. "Whether I believe you or not is my business. You don't need to explain. I'm very clear about what's going on, and there's nothing more to say."

She paused, not saying anything further.

Without evidence, Yvette knew that if she showed any intention of uncovering the truth, David, meticulous as he was, would ensure it remained hidden forever.

Yvette glanced at him. "Let go of me. I'm leaving."

"I need to apologize. I don't want you to misunderstand me." David's voice was gentle, but his grip on Yvette's wrist didn't loosen, showing no intention of letting her go.

Yvette's resistance was evident, and David, fearing she'd get angrier, said, "I'll let you go, but you have to let me finish."

Yvette's gaze fixed on David's hand, her look so intense it made David feel an inexplicable pressure.

David reluctantly released her, his eyes filled with helplessness. "Ingrid just said they were having a family gathering with someone I wanted to see, so I came. I didn't expect the driver to ask you those questions."

Yvette sneered. "David, I don't believe you didn't guess Ingrid meant me. You wanted this outcome, didn't you?"
