Chapter 276 Birthday, Rebirth Day

The office door creaked open, and Yvette glanced up. "Come in."

A colleague stepped in. "Jessica, got a document here that needs your signature."

"Sure, bring it over." Yvette took the document and signed "Jessica."

From the initial awkwardness of the signature to now having her unique style, it had only been a few years.

Handing the document back, Yvette paused and asked, "Hey, the president of Luken's headquarters is passing through Las Vegas tonight and staying for one night, right?"

The colleague nodded, looking a bit uneasy. "But do you really want to go? Won't your husband be mad? I mean, there are rumors that the two brothers don't get along."

"Yeah, the issue came up while I was handling the project." Yvette shrugged. "If he doesn't know, he won't be mad, right?"

The colleague smiled and was about to say something when Yvette's phone alarm suddenly went off.

The colleague glanced at the clock. "Time to clock out? Not working late today?"

"Yep." Yvette quickly shut down her computer and tidied up her desk. "Not today. I promised the kids I'd be home early."

The colleague suddenly remembered. "Oh, almost forgot. Happy birthday, Jessica!"

"Thanks." Yvette grabbed her bag and waved. "See ya."

It was one of those rare days lately that Yvette didn't work overtime.

Lately, the project had run into some issues, leading her to put in extra hours daily to address them. Today, she intended to work late again and had reached out to Lester and Christina as usual to inform them.

But unexpectedly, Christina started crying immediately. "Mommy, you have to come home early today."

"What's wrong?" Yvette was startled. Lester and Christina weren't the type to cry easily.

Christina sobbed. "The cake will go bad!"

Before Christina could finish, Lester got upset. "I said the cake was a surprise, you can't tell Mommy!"

Yvette then remembered that today was her "birthday."

"Oops! I'm sorry!" Yvette swiftly reassured them. "It's my bad. I won't be late today. I'll be back on time, alright?"

Having made a promise to Lester and Christina, she couldn't go back on her word.

After spending time with them and putting them to bed, she still had to meet someone.

The setting sun streamed into the kitchen, lighting up the twin's faces.

Behind them stood the nanny and the baker they had hired to teach them how to make a cake.

Following the baker's instructions, Lester and Christina, with their help, put the cake into the oven to bake.

They pulled up chairs and sat in front of the oven, resting their chins on their hands, watching the cake slowly take shape and start to smell delicious.

David walked into the kitchen and saw this adorable scene. He smiled and patted the two kids on the head. "How's the cake for Mommy coming along?"

"It's baking, Daddy!" Christina excitedly looked at David. "Mommy's cake is almost ready!"

David smiled. "Great job."

Today was Yvette's "birthday," her day of rebirth.

Three years ago today, she escaped from the hellish place of the Valdemar family and from Albert, who had hurt her.

At the same time, she returned to his side.

So, for this day, David always made it a big deal.

Yvette had once asked him when her birthday was, but he hesitated and chose this day.

Because he hoped that the future Yvette would be a brand new Yvette.

Just then, Lester suddenly looked up, his usually serious face showing a rare hint of childlike curiosity. "Daddy, is our hometown Luken?"

David was caught off guard and hadn't answered when Lester asked again, "Are you going back?"

David's face changed, and his demeanor instantly darkened.

"Who said that?"

David's cold gaze swept over the two children, causing them to instinctively shrink back as his voice and expression suddenly changed.

Christina was scared, her mouth quivering but not daring to cry. "Daddy."

Lester was also flustered. "Daddy, sorry."

Saying that, the two children burrowed into the nanny's arms.

David's jaw tightened, and he slowly exhaled before asking again, "Who told you that? Was it your mommy?"

Christina buried her face in the nanny's arms, not daring to move. Lester said cautiously, "Mommy said our home used to be in Luken, but we moved here because you had to work."

Hearing "our home," David realized his reaction had been too strong and that he had lost his composure in front of the children. He chuckled. "Yes, but having you and your mommy is enough for me."

David said in a deep voice, "We are not going back."

"Okay."

Just then, the villa's front door opened, and Yvette's voice came through. "I'm back!"

Children had short memories. As soon as they heard Yvette's voice, they forgot everything else and immediately broke free from the nanny's arms, running out to hug Yvette.

David watched the backs of the two children, his previously smiling lips pressing into a straight line.

The oven beeped, signaling that the cake was done. The two children quickly ran back to the kitchen.

Yvette went upstairs to change into casual clothes, and when she came back down, the two children were already being guided by the baker in whipping the cream for the cake.

From a distance, through the kitchen's glass door, Yvette saw the two children focused on making the cake for her, and she couldn't help but feel a soft spot in her heart.

At that moment, Yvette's body stiffened as she felt an arm drape over her shoulder, only to find David standing beside her.

Yvette's face showed a flash of embarrassment, and she smiled, trying to find an excuse to push David's hand away. "The kids are here, don't do this."

Turning her head, Yvette met David's deep eyes, filled with intense emotions.

Yvette's throat tightened, and she suddenly felt a sense of danger. She instinctively tried to avoid it, but it was too late.

David not only didn't remove his hand from her shoulder but instead pulled her into his arms with force.

He held her so tightly that Yvette almost crashed into his chest.

Yvette heard his muffled voice in her ear. "Jessica, happy birthday. Let me hold you."

He was her husband, and it was reasonable for him to hold her on her birthday.

Yvette tried to convince herself, but her body reacted faster than her mind, pushing David away forcefully.

She pushed so hard that David's body leaned back slightly.

They both froze.

Yvette awkwardly turned her head. "Sorry."
