Chapter 161 Yvette Was Drugged
The room was filled with smoke. In the dim light, Albert kept replaying Yvette's expression in his mind.
The cigarette burned down to his fingertips. Albert stubbed it out and was about to head inside when he heard two men chatting on the other side of the wall not far away.
The two men seemed to be smoking as well, their words muffled by the cigarettes in their mouths.
"Do you think that woman has anything to do with that guy? If she does, can Jimmy succeed?"
A low chuckle. "Nah, I think he's just sweet on her, same as Jimmy. She's playing hard to get, though. Shy, maybe." Another chuckle, this one laced with something sleazy. "If she's into playing it coy, Jimmy's in for a real treat tonight."
Albert frowned at the crude conversation, feeling a strange sense of familiarity with the voices. This feeling made him stay and listen a bit more.
The two men continued their conversation. "Two walked off, and the guy who was crushing on her went out for a smoke. If the drug kicks in, she'll be easy to handle. It usually works pretty well, you know?"
"That's good. So now it's just Jimmy and the girl at the table?"
"Exactly. Once Jimmy succeeds, he owes us a meal." They laughed.
At that moment, Albert's phone vibrated. He glanced at it; it was a message from Victor.
Victor: [Hey Albert. Just dropped Sylvia off. You've got some time with Yvette now. Go get 'em!]
Albert paused, and the laughter from the other side of the wall became even more grating.
He finally recognized the voices—they were two of the three men they had shared a table with!
Albert's throat tightened. He gripped his phone and rushed into the bar.
By the time Albert got inside, it was too late to stop what was happening.
Yvette's eyes were already glazed over, and she was huddled in a corner, trying to stay conscious. The man called "Jimmy," with small eyes, was sitting next to her, moving closer.
Albert's heart tightened. He quickly rushed over, grabbed the man by the collar, and yanked him up.
Albert's gaze was cold and dangerous, as if suppressing his anger. "What are you doing?"
Jimmy Knight was startled and impatiently tried to shake Albert off but failed. "What do you care? It's none of your business!"
Albert stared at him, his deep eyes tinged with red, and said in a dangerous tone, "I care."
Jimmy, already feeling guilty, tried to stand his ground. "She's drunk. I saw she was uncomfortable and wanted to help her. What's wrong with that? Can't I take her home to rest?"
His words made Albert even angrier. He glanced at Yvette, who was flushed and uncomfortable, and coldly asked, "What did you give her?"
Jimmy's voice trembled slightly, "Nothing."
"Speak!" Albert tightened his grip, choking Jimmy with the collar.
Jimmy trembled and admitted, "Just something to make her willing to sleep with me."
Before he could finish, Albert's fist had already swung at him. The sound of Albert's knuckles hitting Jimmy's flesh drew everyone's attention.
Several people craned their necks to look, and a waiter came over.
"Sir, what's going on? Let's talk this out."
Spotting the waiter approaching, Jimmy yelled urgently, "Quick, call the police! This guy hit me!"
At that moment, Yvette let out a pained groan. Albert turned to see her almost falling off her chair.
Albert rushed over, caught Yvette, and coldly scanned the room.
Albert's voice was low and chilling, his eyes narrowed dangerously, and his lips pressed into a cold, straight line, "He drugged my wife."
If he weren't in a hurry to get Yvette home, it wouldn't have ended with just one punch.
Ignoring the shocked expressions around him, Albert shot a cold glance at the stunned Jimmy, picked up Yvette, and left.
Albert looked down at Yvette, who was frowning and writhing uncomfortably in his arms, feeling a bit unsettled himself.
"Are you okay, Yvette?"
Albert carried Yvette out of the bar. Since Victor had driven them there, Albert had to find a cab.
But Yvette was drugged and could barely walk, moaning in his arms.
Albert hailed a cab, but the driver, noticing Yvette's condition, immediately looked wary. "I can't take you! Follow the law, young man!"
With that, the driver sped off, and the cab quickly disappeared. Albert frowned, realizing that taking a cab wasn't reliable.
Thinking for a moment, Albert decided to take Yvette to a nearby hotel.
The hotel staff, seemingly used to such situations, didn't react much. But remembering the cab driver's words, "Follow the law," Albert showed them a photo of their marriage certificate. The staff's eyes flashed with surprise, not expecting someone to show a marriage certificate.
Albert didn't think much of it. He took the room key and headed straight to the room with Yvette.
The drug was potent. As Albert wiped Yvette's body with a towel, she kept trying to throw herself at him but fell back due to her weakness.
Albert was turned on by Yvette's unusual behavior, but he fought back his desires and carefully cleaned her.
Eventually, Yvette seemed to tire and gradually quieted down. Her fair, soft face still flushed unnaturally, her chest rising and falling.
Albert sat by Yvette's bed, staring at her face. He wanted to leave her to rest but couldn't bring himself to go, worried about the drug's side effects and its dosage.
Albert frowned, took out his phone, and was about to call a doctor friend for advice.
But as soon as he stood up, Yvette, who had been quiet, suddenly hugged Albert's leg, pressing her face against it.
Yvette, eyes closed, oblivious to her actions, murmured, "Don't go."
