Chapter 340 Confessing to Grandma

Under Albert's relentless pressure, Yvette was on the verge of collapsing. Just as she was about to retort, someone rushed in from outside, visibly flustered.

Interrupted in his conversation with Yvette, Albert frowned in displeasure.

He reprimanded, "Who let you in?"

Albert's subordinate immediately lowered his head and reluctantly said, "Sorry, Mrs. Cheryl Valdemar is here."

As Cheryl's hurried footsteps approached, she walked briskly yet composed. Turning around, Albert was met with a slap so loud it stunned even Yvette.

Albert's eyes lowered, his expression unreadable. He neither dodged nor retorted, fully accepting the slap.

But his reaction did not quell Cheryl's anger; instead, she felt he was admitting his guilt.

Cheryl angrily commanded, "You and your men, get out!"

Cheryl, after all, had been in charge of the Valdemar Family for decades. Usually kind, her anger was nonetheless imposing.

Albert slowly turned back, meeting Cheryl's gaze. "No."

"Albert, how dare you!" Cheryl pointed at Albert, her finger trembling involuntarily.

Clearly, he was her most beloved grandson, yet she had slapped him herself. Cheryl's eyes were red with anger. "If you want to control the Valdemar Family, you'll have to wait until I'm dead! Get out!"

"Grandma," Albert's eyes darkened. "I don't want to control everything. I'm just looking for my wife. For four years, you never stopped me, even supported me in finding her. But now that I've found her, why are you siding with David and obstructing me?"

"Don't you understand why I'm stopping you?" Cheryl pointed to the door. "I told you to get out! Don't you understand?"

Albert's lips pressed tightly together, he said nothing, but his eyes were resolute.

Cheryl was furious. "Do you want me to have a heart attack right here?"

Looking at Cheryl, once spirited but now aged, Albert noticed her vigorous demeanor couldn't hide the grey hair at her temples and the wrinkles on her face. She was truly old.

Even Hayden, who had been so healthy in his youth, passed away suddenly.

Thinking of this, Albert's heart softened. He no longer clashed with Cheryl head-on and turned to look at Yvette.

At this moment, Yvette had her eyes lowered, her expression unreadable, but he could feel her suffocation and despair.

Albert frowned, his voice slightly hoarse. "I can leave, but don't make things difficult for her."

Cheryl retorted, "Whether I make things difficult for her is none of your business!"

"It is my business," Albert said in a deep voice. "She is my woman, and I will protect her."

"Stop talking," Yvette interrupted Albert, her voice tight as if someone was gripping her throat. "Albert, it's late, you should go."

Turning back, Albert gave Yvette a deep look before leaving. Peace returned to the house only after Albert and his men were gone.

Yvette took a deep breath. "Grandma, please sit for a while, I'll get you a glass of water."

"No need," Cheryl refused. "I'll leave after I finish speaking."

Cheryl's voice was cold and hard, as if the bond they once shared as grandmother and granddaughter had never existed.

During those oppressive days in the Valdemar Family, Cheryl was the only one who treated her well, the only one who sincerely stayed by her side.

Yvette knew that she was the cause of all this.

Yvette nodded, her eyes slightly sore. She blinked to hide her tears and said, "I'm sorry, Grandma."

"Are you apologizing to me?" Cheryl's voice trembled slightly. "You should apologize to yourself! You've put yourself in such a chaotic situation and disrupted the entire Valdemar Family!"

Picking at her fingernails, Yvette admitted to everything Cheryl said. She felt sorry for the version of herself who hadn't figured out what she truly needed and decided to leave for further studies, causing the two Valdemar men to lose control and deepen their conflicts. But none of this was her intention.

"Yes." Yvette's eyes reddened. "It was my fault."

"So why?" Cheryl looked at Yvette intently. "You loved Albert so much, why did you become David's wife?"

Yvette's lips curled into a bitter smile. "There was an accident..."

"If you were willing to be David's wife and had two children with him, you should have been prepared to spend your life with him." Cheryl's voice grew more agitated, her eyes moist. "I thought it was because David had a good character that you wanted to be with him. But how could you then be with Albert..."

Cheryl paused, letting out a heavy sigh, her words too difficult to say. This made Yvette feel even more embarrassed. What Cheryl couldn't voice, Yvette had done herself—but she had been forced into it.

Feeling increasingly wronged, Yvette finally couldn't hold back and spoke the truth, "That day with Albert, it was because I was drugged with an aphrodisiac, my body was out of control, I didn't know what I was doing."

"What?" Cheryl looked at Yvette in shock. "Albert drugged you?"

Cheryl's face turned red with anger, cursing loudly, "That Albert, he'll stop at nothing. I knew he couldn't let you go, but to use such despicable means to get your body. How could he do that?"

"No, Grandma," Yvette became anxious, wanting to explain.

But Cheryl, too shocked, kept cursing Albert, "Stop defending him! I thought he was just a bit willful and domineering, but I never expected him to do such a thing. He..."

Seeing Cheryl struggling to breathe, Yvette was startled, quickly supporting her and rubbing her back to help her breathe. "Grandma, listen to me, it wasn't Albert who drugged me."

Cheryl asked, "If not him, who else could do such a rebellious thing?"

Yvette's throat tightened, she said softly, "It was David."

Cheryl was stunned.
