Chapter 247 Yvette Forgot to Bring Birth Control Pills
Yvette rocked a long white dress, her hair flowing over her shoulders, giving off a fresh and gentle vibe. She had on light makeup, with a hint of rose-colored lipstick that made her look lively.
Milton tossed the suitcase into the car, and Yvette and Albert were about to hop in.
Cheryl stood by the car, looking a bit worried. "You guys take care out there in the countryside. If you feel off, come back right away, okay?"
Yvette nodded, trying to reassure her. "I got it."
Noticing Cheryl's eyes darting to Albert, Yvette quickly added, "Don't worry, I'll look after him."
Unexpectedly, Cheryl shot Albert a glare. "It's one thing for him to go on a business trip, but why drag you along? The conditions there aren't great. What if you can't handle it?"
"I'm not that fragile." Yvette stepped up and hugged Cheryl. "I've lived in the countryside before, and it's not so bad now."
Cheryl still looked hesitant, holding onto Yvette's arm with a reluctant expression, making Albert frown.
"Grandma, you don't usually get this worked up about someone leaving." Albert glanced at Cheryl, suspicion in his eyes.
Cheryl was always the rational type. Even when Hayden was on his deathbed, she managed the business overseas with a clear head. Why was she so reluctant about Yvette leaving for a few days?
Sure enough, Cheryl pulled Yvette aside and whispered, "If he gives you any trouble, let me know, and I'll deal with him when you get back, okay?"
"He won't." Yvette lowered her eyes but glanced at Albert. "He's really good to me."
Albert looked a bit surprised, his gaze on Yvette deepening.
At the airport.
Since it was a weekday, the airport wasn't too crowded. The drivers had left, leaving just Yvette and Albert waiting for their flight with their suitcases.
Yvette kept sneaking glances at Albert.
This business trip had turned into their first solo trip since getting married. Despite being married for a while, they hadn't had a honeymoon, a trip, or even much alone time together.
Thinking about it, Yvette tightened her grip on the suitcase, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement.
Suddenly, Yvette's phone rang, and she answered it.
Sylvia's excited voice came through. "Yvette, happy birthday!"
Yvette was startled and quickly covered the phone, glancing cautiously at Albert beside her.
She switched the phone to her other ear, hoping Albert hadn't heard Sylvia.
Luckily, Albert's expression didn't change, and Yvette sighed in relief.
"Thanks." Yvette said softly.
Sylvia went on, "Yvette, did you ask Cheryl? Can you hang out with me today?"
"Sorry, Sylvia, I forgot to tell you." Yvette explained, "Today, there's this thing at the Valdemar family-sponsored elementary school, and I gotta be there, so I can't hang out with you."
"So you're going with Albert? Just the two of you?"
"Yeah." Yvette didn't want to say much with Albert right next to her. She cleared her throat. "I'll be back in a couple of days. Let's hang out then."
"Okay, as long as you're with him, I'm relieved," Sylvia teased. "Use this chance to get closer!"
"Sure," Yvette replied, her expression a bit stiff.
Meanwhile, Albert seemed lost in thought, staring blankly at the departure board.
As soon as they landed, a driver and a reception staff, who had been pre-arranged, came to pick them up.
On the way, the driver and the reception staff enthusiastically shared some local customs and features.
Albert glanced over at Yvette, who was intently listening with genuine interest, smiled, and then turned his gaze to the window.
At the hotel, Yvette looked around.
It wasn't even decent, a bit worse than the budget hotels in the city. But since it was just the two of them, Yvette felt a mix of nervousness and happiness.
The hotel seemed safe and clean overall. Yvette and Albert dragged their luggage into the room and started unpacking.
Albert glanced at his phone and said to Yvette, "I'm going to meet with the person in charge to discuss tomorrow's work."
"Go ahead."
As Albert left the room, Yvette opened her suitcase and began organizing their belongings.
The business trip was only for two or three days, so they didn't bring much luggage, making it easy to organize. After arranging the clothes, Yvette suddenly frowned and started rummaging through her things more vigorously.
Where were her long-term contraceptive pills? She distinctly remembered packing them.
Yvette was suddenly taken aback, recalling something.
Afraid they might be seen accidentally, Yvette always kept her contraceptive pills in a locked drawer, as servants came in to clean every day.
Yesterday, she was about to take them out of the drawer when Cheryl knocked on their door.
In a hurry, Yvette had put the pills back in the drawer and locked it.
But later, as she continued packing, she had the fixed impression that she had already packed the pills.
Yvette bit her lip, feeling a bit anxious.
For the past few days, Yvette had been so busy that she kept forgetting to take her pills. When she remembered to catch up, she was confused about which pill to take.
Yvette roughly estimated that she had missed her pills for five days.
Yvette was shocked.
Yesterday, when she and Albert had sex on the spur of the moment, Albert thought she had been taking the pills and didn't use a condom, and Yvette had forgotten that she hadn't taken her pills recently, allowing him to ejaculate inside her.
Yvette quickly put down her luggage and Googled.
[Risk of pregnancy after stopping long-term contraceptive pills.]
[Missed several days of long-term contraceptive pills, no protection, will I get pregnant?]
Looking at the various answers, Yvette became increasingly anxious.
Just then, the room door suddenly opened with a key card.
Yvette looked up in a hurry, seeing Albert walking in with a few bottles of water in his hand.
Yvette quickly averted her gaze, pressed the lock screen button on her phone, and put it away, afraid he would notice something.
Albert strode over to Yvette and stared into her eyes. "What's wrong?"
