Chapter 286 I Am David's Wife
Albert stood tall, his chiseled face and deep-set eyes locked on Yvette. His thin lips were pressed together beneath his high-bridged nose.
That face was all too familiar to her; it was just like David's.
The mix of emotions in Albert's eyes made Yvette feel uneasy.
It seemed she really did look like Yvette. Just on the plane, Victor had called her by the same name.
Yvette must have meant a lot to Albert.
Yvette opened her mouth to explain she wasn't who he thought she was, but Albert had already closed the distance between them.
Without a word, he pulled her into a hug. Yvette stiffened, feeling Albert's intense longing even though they were strangers.
Albert's low, restrained voice whispered in her ear. "I missed you so much."
His warm breath brushed against her ear, making it itch slightly.
Yvette reacted quickly, pushing Albert away gently. "Sorry, sir, you've got the wrong person."
A flash of disbelief crossed Albert's eyes, and his voice trembled slightly with unease. "It's me, I'm Albert Valdemar."
Yvette locked eyes with him, sensing a mix of surprise, unease, tension, and fear in his gaze.
Yvette was stunned for a moment, repeating Albert's name in confusion, "Albert Valdemar?"
Albert's Adam's apple bobbed slightly. "Are you sure you don't know me?"
Yvette suddenly realized David and Albert Valdemar were identical twins. David had always been vague about his brother, and she assumed they didn't get along, so she never pressed for details.
But it was surprising that he had never mentioned this important fact to her before.
Shaking herself out of her thoughts, Yvette pursed her lips. "I guess I should've known you."
A flash of joy appeared in Albert's eyes. He looked at her with burning intensity and reached out to hug her again.
Yvette took a step back, looking at Albert defensively. "I am David's wife. My name is Jessica."
In Albert's stunned moment, Yvette extended her hand to him and said, "Hello."
The burning heat in Albert's eyes instantly cooled. He looked at Yvette in disbelief.
So it was David.
All these years, he couldn't find Yvette because David had hidden her away!
Albert's thin lips pressed tightly together, suppressing the intense emotions in his heart, but his whole body exuded a chilling coldness that filled the entire VIP room.
Albert stared at Yvette without blinking. "Did David teach you to act like this, Yvette?"
"I am Jessica." Yvette frowned slightly, displeased. "I don't know any Yvette you're talking about."
Albert's chest heaved violently, his eyes gradually turning red, and his gaze emitted a cold light.
He stepped forward, pinched Yvette's delicate chin, and lifted the hair behind her left ear.
The next second, Albert, who was confident in exposing Yvette, was stunned.
Under Yvette's left ear, there used to be a faint pink birthmark, a spot he had kissed countless times.
But now, that birthmark was gone.
Albert's fingers rubbed the spot, but it didn't seem to be covered up.
He was stunned, and his grip unconsciously tightened.
Yvette winced in pain and pushed Albert away, her eyes flashing with anger. "Sir, please mind your manners."
Albert looked at the person in front of him in shock. He wanted to see some recognition in her eyes, but she genuinely seemed not to know him.
Albert instantly fell into self-doubt.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his leg, and Albert gasped, looking down.
Lester glared at Albert. "Don't bully my mommy, you bad man!"
Christina also looked at him defensively. "I'm going to tell Daddy and have him beat you up!"
Albert's eyes flickered, and he asked hoarsely, "Is your father David?"
His heart clenched and ached.
If Yvette's child had been born before she disappeared, would they be this age now?
But she said she wasn't Yvette.
Lester tilted his head in displeasure but suddenly remembered something and looked back at Yvette. "Mommy, he said his name is Albert Valdemar, just like Daddy's last name."
Yvette gave Albert a cold glance, suppressing her displeasure, and said, "Yes, you two, call him uncle."
Lester and Christina were a bit reluctant, but they didn't dare disobey Yvette. They reluctantly said in low voices, "Uncle."
Albert's jaw tightened, his neck felt strangled, and he struggled to breathe. He opened his mouth to speak, but Yvette turned away.
She picked up her suitcase and slung her backpack over her shoulder. "I have things to do, so I'll be leaving. Thank you for taking care of the two children twice."
"BoBo, CiCi," Yvette said, "hold onto Mommy's coat and then say thank you and goodbye to your uncle."
Lester and Christina said in unison, "Thank you, Uncle. Goodbye, Uncle."
Albert clenched his fists tightly, his usually cold and aloof eyes now devoid of focus, dark and lifeless.
It wasn't until Yvette disappeared from the VIP room with the two children that Albert lowered his gaze, hiding the unbearable pain.
At that moment, Vincent rushed in.
"Mr. Valdemar!" Vincent, not noticing Albert's distress, said excitedly, "It's Yvette! Yvette just left with two children, and Mr. Thomas has already stopped them. We can still catch up if we go now!"
Albert kept his head down, his voice sounding like it had been torn apart, each word filled with heart-wrenching pain. "No need to chase."
Vincent was stunned.
"She said she's David's wife, and those are their children." Albert's voice was hoarse.
Vincent was even more confused, unable to react for a long time.
Albert's tall figure trembled almost imperceptibly, as if suppressing extreme pain.
After a while, Albert suddenly raised his head.
Albert's eyes were full of unwillingness. "Find out everything David has been doing in Las Vegas all these years, when he got married, and investigate that woman who calls herself Jessica. Find out who she really is."
Vincent finally reacted. "Got it."
