Chapter 505 Racing Death to Find Albert
Yvette's breakdown reached Felix and Gabrielle's ears exactly as she'd intended.
Her fury struck like a hurricane, sending both parents into immediate panic. Felix clutched the phone with trembling hands, his eyes wide with terror—he'd never imagined Yvette would explode with such rage, threatening to take her own life.
Gabrielle's face drained of all color, her voice hollow with worry and helplessness. "Felix, did she really say she'd kill herself?"
His silence was answer enough.
Gabrielle's composure cracked. "She's a mother of two children—she wouldn't threaten suicide lightly unless..." She paused, realization dawning. "Does she know about the poisoning?"
The nurse's frantic voice crackled through the phone, "Mr. Hayes, what should we do? You need to get here immediately!"
Each urgent word from the nurse cut through the Hayes parents like a blade, the harsh reality they'd tried to avoid now laid bare. Yvette had discovered something—that much was certain from her violent reaction.
"Understood," Felix said grimly. "Keep her stable. We're on our way."
As he hung up, Gabrielle seized his arm desperately. "Felix, she cannot die! If she dies and Albert doesn't lift the sanctions against Violet, we'll never get the antidote formula. Clifford..." Her voice broke, the words dissolving into anguished sobs.
"I know," Felix snapped irritably. "Crying here won't solve anything. Pack your things—we need to negotiate with Yvette."
Gabrielle wiped her tears roughly. "Let's go, quickly!"
In the dank underground cell, the atmosphere was suffocating with tension. Yvette sat with clenched fists, her eyes blazing with determination as she faced the Hayes parents, hatred radiating from every fiber of her being.
"What exactly did you do to my child?" she demanded without preamble. Though her voice was weak, it burned with fury and an unwavering demand for answers.
The Hayes parents exchanged uneasy glances, neither daring to speak. At the mention of her child, Yvette's emotions surged again like a tidal wave. She drew a shaky breath, fixing them with a venomous stare. "How could you, as parents yourselves, commit such a monstrous act? That was my child—a living being!"
Gabrielle couldn't help but defend herself. "Your child had already... the toxicity levels were so severe that—"
"Stop lying to me!" Yvette snarled through gritted teeth. "You did this because my pregnancy interfered with your drug trials! You murdered my child for your experiments!"
Her body shook with rage as she studied their faces, desperate to pierce through to the truth beneath their facades.
"Ms. Orlando, that's not true," Gabrielle pleaded. "You suffered severe radiation poisoning. Even if we'd tried to save the pregnancy, there would have been catastrophic complications."
"That decision was mine to make! What gave you the right?" A tear of pure anguish rolled down Yvette's cheek as she whispered, "You're murderers."
The tears came in torrents now, each one carrying the weight of her devastation. Her child—gone before ever seeing the world, stolen from her by these monsters.
The Hayes parents' eyes reflected deep helplessness and sorrow. Gabrielle opened her mouth to argue further, but Felix restrained her with a shake of his head. They'd committed inhuman acts—there was no justifying their actions to Yvette.
Their silence only intensified Yvette's breakdown. She raised her head, eyes blazing with fury and grief. "Aren't you afraid of death? I'm Albert's wife. You murdered Albert's child with your own hands. He will never forgive you."
Yvette's face was ghostly pale, beaded with sweat, her eyes swollen and glistening with tears. Her pain and hatred cut through her words like daggers, piercing straight into Gabrielle's heart.
At the mention of Albert, Gabrielle completely crumbled. She knew Yvette spoke the truth—if Albert discovered everything, he would surely kill them all.
But if they didn't follow Violet's orders, they'd never obtain the antidote formula, and Clifford would die. They'd rather face Albert's wrath than watch their son suffer such an agonizing death.
Gabrielle's tears flowed uncontrollably. "I understand your grief over losing your child, but I'm a mother too! I can't bear to lose mine either!"
"You lost your child because someone sought revenge against you, because radiation poisoning made pregnancy impossible," Gabrielle screamed through her sobs. "But what about me? My son was poisoned trying to save you! Don't you understand, Ms. Orlando? If he hadn't risked everything to rescue you, he never would have been poisoned. We wouldn't need you for drug trials or use you to bargain for the antidote!"
Yvette's body went rigid. In her fury, she'd forgotten this crucial fact—she was the catalyst for this entire nightmare.
Gabrielle was right. If not for her, Clifford would never have faced this fate.
Yvette remembered the fire—Clifford's desperate efforts to save her, shouldering the burden to ensure her escape first. When danger struck, he'd thrown himself in front of her without hesitation.
Regardless of how Felix and Gabrielle treated her, she knew Clifford had genuinely tried to save her life. Without his protection, she would already be dead.
She knew he hadn't sought her gratitude—he'd simply done what he believed was right. But she couldn't escape the crushing guilt that consumed her. She couldn't be ungrateful.
Yvette drew a deep breath, slowly regaining her composure. She looked steadily at Felix and Gabrielle before speaking with measured calm. "I won't pursue what you did—taking my child, using me for experiments, imprisoning me—as long as you truly release me. You have two days. If I'm not back with the Valdemar Family within forty-eight hours, if I can't see Albert, I'll kill myself right in front of you. When that happens, Albert will raze the Hayes Family to the ground."
Watching the terror in Felix and Gabrielle's eyes, Yvette's tears began flowing again. She was dying, and she had to return to Albert's side.
