Chapter 436 I Was Trapped Here Last Night, Can You Come Pick Me Up?

A chill ran through Yvette's heart as she clutched the torn part of her dress, trying to cover her exposed skin.

Thankfully, it was pitch dark outside, and the power was out, making visibility extremely low. David couldn't see anything.

Yvette swallowed hard and abruptly stood up from the couch. "I need to change."

The villa still held plenty of her old clothes. Using her phone's flashlight, Yvette hurried to the master bedroom to find a comfortable outfit.

Seeing the torn dress, she felt a pang of emotion. Albert had given it to her, and she was reluctant to throw it away. But the dress was ruined, and if Albert saw it, he might misunderstand.

Yvette frowned and finally tossed the dress into the trash.

After showering and changing, Yvette ran her fingers through her still-damp hair.

She glanced at the door to the master bedroom's storage room.

Even though Yvette had hidden in the closet, she could tell from David's footsteps that he had gone straight to the storage room after coming upstairs.

The master bedroom had always been hers, but David's direct path to the storage room made Yvette suspicious that he was hiding something he urgently needed.

Although the master bedroom was hers, the housekeepers kept it so tidy that she rarely needed to go into the storage room herself.

With these thoughts, Yvette's heart began to race.

She stared at the closed door, a door she had passed by many times without a second glance, now seemed to have a magnetic pull, urging her to approach and open it.

Just as Yvette's slender fingers touched the doorknob, there was a sudden knock on the master bedroom door. "Yvette, are you done changing?"

Yvette's body trembled, and she instinctively pulled her hand back.

She swallowed. "Almost."

David said, "Come out when you're ready. I need to discuss something with you."

"Okay." Yvette felt a twinge of regret. She composed herself, adjusted her clothes, and turned to open the door.

There was a faint light at the door, coming from the candelabra David was holding.

The flickering candlelight cast shadows on David's face. Yvette couldn't make out his expression but felt a chill.

David's voice was slightly hoarse. "When I came back, I had the butler clean that room and change the bed linens."

Yvette was taken aback. "What?"

"I didn't know you would come back, let alone get trapped here by the typhoon. The bed linens here haven't been changed in a long time and aren't very clean," David explained. "You should sleep in my room tonight. I'll sleep in the master bedroom."

"No need," Yvette retorted. "It's just a bit dusty. It's fine, I'll sleep here."

"Yvette," David's eyes reflected the flickering candlelight. "I just want this house to leave you with a good impression. For your last night here, I don't want you to be uncomfortable."

Yvette grew anxious. If David slept in this room, she wouldn't be able to search the storage room for evidence while he slept.

But if she made it too obvious and angered David, it would be very dangerous with all communication down and transportation blocked.

Yvette took a deep breath. "I really don't mind..."

Before she could finish, David interrupted. "That's settled, Yvette."

David glanced at his watch in the dim candlelight. "It's late. Get some rest."

With that, David handed the candelabra to Yvette. "Take this. Be careful."

The storm raged on through the night, never ceasing.

By dawn, the rain had lessened.

The night sky gradually lifted, revealing a faint light. The rain had stopped, though the wind still howled, no longer as fierce as the day before.

Yvette blinked wearily, having stayed up all night, and looked out at the world, now calm and serene.

She slowly sat up, her body stiff from the sleepless night, feeling more exhausted than usual.

Yvette tried calling Sylvia on her phone, but the signal was still down.

As the sky brightened, Yvette's tense body finally began to relax.

Sleepiness crept in, and Yvette managed to doze off for a short while.

The freshly washed sunlight streamed into the room through the uncurtained windows.

Half-asleep, Yvette frowned, seemingly caught in a nightmare.

Until the phone in her hand vibrated, waking her up.

Yvette lit up her phone and saw a message from Sylvia: [Yvette, as soon as communication is restored, contact Albert to pick you up. He knows everything.]

Yvette, who had barely slept, was instantly wide awake.

Albert knew she had ditched the bodyguards to come to David's house and spent the night there.

Thinking of Albert's hostility towards David, Yvette's throat tightened. Fighting her panic, she bit her lip and sent Albert the villa's location.

Even though she knew Albert probably already knew where she was: [Last night I got stuck here. Can you come get me?]

Almost immediately, Yvette received a reply: [Okay.]

The morning after the typhoon, sunlight broke through the clouds, shining on the damp yard.

Yvette finished washing up and, barefoot, quietly tiptoed downstairs to take a peek.

In the kitchen, David was already preparing breakfast.

He skillfully whisked eggs and heated milk, everything under his control.

Yvette quickly returned to her room and rushed into the storage room, searching frantically. Her every move revealed her inner anxiety and anticipation as she meticulously scrutinized every corner. She had to find evidence to convince Albert, or this trip would be in vain. Gritting her teeth with determination, Yvette searched the drawers and cabinets even faster.

Just as Yvette opened a cabinet, the door behind her suddenly opened.

David stood in the doorway, smiling. He had entered so quietly that Yvette hadn't even heard him open the master bedroom door.

His voice suddenly sounded in Yvette's ear. "What are you looking for?"
