Chapter 101 Don't Want to Listen
Elsa was yanked up from her seat by Ava.
"Who do you think you are? Competing with Manager Collins for a man and getting into Dalton Banks by sleeping with Mr. Taylor?" Ava sneered, giving Elsa a hard shove.
Elsa, too frail, stumbled backward.
"Ava, that's enough!" The girl next to them stood up, rushing to help, but Luke got there first. Elsa fell into his strong embrace.
"Mr. Taylor," the girl quickly greeted.
Everyone present hurriedly stood up, looking embarrassed.
"What happened?" Luke asked his arm around Elsa's waist.
"Ava was bullying Elsa," the female colleague said.
"I didn't, Mr. Taylor. Let me explain. It was Elsa who..." Ava tried to argue, but seeing Luke's stern face, she lost her nerve and lowered her voice.
"Don't lie! Everyone saw it!"
The girl then recounted the scene to Luke in detail.
"Ava, go to HR and handle your resignation later." Luke's voice wasn't loud, but it carried a strong sense of authority. Ava opened her mouth to argue but couldn't say a word.
"I need to talk to you," Luke said, pulling Elsa and starting to walk out.
"Let's talk after work. I'm busy now." Elsa gave Luke a faint glance and stepped back.
Elsa's cold demeanor made Luke's heart tighten.
"Don't believe the gossip published by those media outlets!" Luke's temper flared as he saw Elsa's cold expression. He felt wronged too!
"Got it."
"Elsa Miller, what kind of attitude is this? Even death row inmates get a chance to defend themselves!" Luke was angry.
"I'm working. We'll talk after work." Elsa raised her voice too.
Luke stormed out, still thinking he was in the right. She felt a block in her heart. She shouldn't be sad; she had long decided not to get emotionally involved with him.
Elsa had found out about the news too late and needed time to think about how to sort out her feelings. She didn't want to talk about it now.
Seeing Elsa's firm attitude, Luke left with a dark face.
After Luke left, Elsa sat at her desk, unable to focus on work.
Elsa spent an hour carefully reading the news about Luke and Margaret, revisiting the old stories the media had dug up about them years ago.
Since they grew up together, with similar family backgrounds and good looks, anyone would say Luke and Margaret looked like a perfect match.
Elsa's heart ached, and she took deep breaths to suppress the sadness.
What happened between Luke and Margaret last night and this morning, whether they rekindled their old flame, was not Elsa's concern. What she needed to consider was whether she still wanted her marriage.
If she did, how should she move forward?
"Elsa, did you see the news? Do you want me to stay with you tonight?" Chloe called, her tone cautious.
"I saw it, no need for now," came Elsa's curt reply.
"But..." Chloe was about to say more, when Elsa interjected, "I haven't decided yet."
Elsa knew Chloe wanted to ask if she was going to get a divorce.
But someone like Elsa, who was result-oriented, wouldn't let herself be swayed by Luke or Margaret. She needed to ask her own heart.
"No matter what your decision is, I will support you," Chloe said.
Later, Jonny, who had also seen the news, sent her a message on Facebook.
Jonny: [Elsa, no matter what your decision is, my feelings for you haven't changed. I want you to know that I have always been waiting for you. Whatever you want, even if it drains the entire Jones family, I will give it to you.]
How did she deserve such a confidant friend like Chloe and to be genuinely liked by someone like Jonny? Elsa felt a bit teary for a moment.
