Chapter 103 Jealousy
Elsa and Jonathan found a tiny, no-frills restaurant to grab a bite. The place was so small it didn't even have a parking lot, so Jonathan's Bentley was awkwardly parked on the sidewalk.
"You've never lived this simply, have you?" Elsa said, placing the dishes in front of Jonathan.
Jonathan chuckled at Elsa's playful comment. How could she know how he'd lived his life? This was his life before he turned 20.
"You give me this weird feeling sometimes," Jonathan said, dodging her question.
"What do you mean?" Elsa asked, puzzled.
"Like you're my long-lost daughter, and we just reunited," Jonathan said.
Elsa nearly choked on her drink.
"I'm almost 22. Don't make it weird," she said, laughing.
They spent over three hours eating. During the meal, Luke called, but Elsa ignored it.
"Before you decide anything, I need to tell you two things," Jonathan said as he drove Elsa home.
"First, the day we had our first meal, Luke Taylor came to see me. He said he'd rather I go after his family business than you.
"Second, about those documents you gave me about the Miller family's illegal bidding, Luke's assistant sent them to me before you did."
He was trying to tell her that Luke wasn't as indifferent to Elsa as she thought.
Elsa was stunned.
Luke didn't say anything, but he had done so much for her behind her back? This told her that at least in his heart, Elsa was someone special.
"But he still kissed Margaret Collins on the street." Thinking of this, Elsa felt her chest tighten.
"The paparazzi can be tricky. It might have been a misleading shot. Think it through," Jonathan advised.
"Okay." Elsa leaned back in her seat, silent for a long time.
She was torn. She couldn't accept Luke's infidelity, but her rational mind told her she couldn't just walk away from her marriage.
Elsa had fought hard to get into this relationship. And to be honest, she never expected Luke to love her. To give up now would be too easy.
Elsa got home at 10 PM.
She kicked off her shoes at the door and walked in barefoot, only to see Luke smoking on the couch. For a moment, Elsa thought he looked like a big dog abandoned by its owner, full of sadness.
'Impossible. How can Luke be sad? Now that he's back with Margaret, he must be happy,' Elsa thought dejectedly.
"You're back." Luke stubbed out his cigarette and walked over to hug Elsa.
Elsa didn't know that after work, Luke went to the 15th floor of their office but couldn't find her. He called home, but she wasn't there either, so he drove around looking for her.
Luke also saw the black Bentley next to the small restaurant and the scene of Elsa and Jonathan chatting happily through the window. The handsome man in a tailored suit and the drop-dead gorgeous girl dining in such a humble restaurant had drawn the attention of other diners.
Jonathan was indeed different when it came to Elsa.
Luke saw Jonathan take the iced drink from Elsa's hand and ask the waiter to replace it with hot water. He even carefully shielded her to prevent her from getting burned.
When he witnessed that scene, Luke's jealousy overflowed.
There were plenty of men who liked Elsa. In the past, her heart was full of hatred, so she refused to indulge in romantic feelings. Now, whatever Luke could offer, Jonathan could too. Who knew if she would waver?
