Chapter 56 Good Job, Elsa

Luke led Elsa into the master bedroom, his arm around her waist.

"You're quite generous," he remarked coldly after closing the door.

Elsa couldn't be bothered to argue with him. 'I respected his choices and gave him the opportunity to be with his first love. He should be happy about that,' Elsa thought.

"You flatter me," she replied, taking a clean bathrobe and heading toward the bathroom.

Luke grabbed her arm and pushed her onto the bed behind her.

His arms on either side of Elsa's body, he looked down at her with a mix of curiosity and desire.

"Elsa, are you in such a hurry to push me toward someone else?"

When Luke found Elsa sitting alone in the yard lost in thought, he had felt sorry for leaving her behind. But to his irritation, she had willingly offered her room to Margaret!

Luke had admitted that he had feelings for Margaret for a long time, but things had changed now. He saw her more as a friend.

He had promised to pick up Margaret personally a few days ago and had received a call tonight, so he reluctantly pushed Elsa away from him, suppressing his desires.

He had come out to pick up Margaret in a gentle mood, but he was now a bit frustrated. He had been a little absentminded when he saw Margaret.

Margaret had suggested that they go to his villa for the night to, avoid waking her parents up. She also wanted to see the woman who had supposedly won him over. Luke had brought her along without much thought.

Since his villa was spacious enough, he casually assigned her a guest room.

But Luke did not expect Margaret to refer to Elsa as Ms. Miller. Elsa had even offered to give up her bedroom to her, which made him angry.

"Luke Taylor knows where his heart lies, there's no need for me to push." Elsa sensed danger and quickly put on a smile.

It had been a long time since she called him Luke Taylor.

Luke's eyes turned cold at this unfamiliar address.

"Elsa, speak properly, there's no need for sarcasm. If you're getting the wrong idea about something, you can ask for an explanation. There's no need for this mocking attitude."

"That's not what I meant," Elsa turned her head away, sighing.

"I did everything I could to marry you because I didn't want you to marry Karen, you know that."

Luke gazed at her coldly, and she continued, "I've realized that it's unfortunate for you to be stuck with me. Although we got married, I can't be selfish and hold you back for a lifetime. You can pursue your own love, as long as..."

"As long as that person isn't Karen," Luke coldly interrupted. "Right?"

His gaze was sharp. He looked as if he wanted to tear Elsa apart, causing her to shrink back involuntarily.

"You don't love Karen, so I had no qualms about stealing her engagement. But you do have feelings for Margaret. Now, Margaret is back. And I shouldn't interfere with whatever you want to do for her..."

Elsa felt a bit discouraged. It seemed like she was being portrayed as the one at fault, even though it was Luke who seemed to be straying.

As she spoke, there was a sharp, hidden pain in her heart, but she tried to ignore that feeling.

"Good job, Elsa, is that what you really think?" The pressure around Luke was intense. He felt a sense of superiority.

In that moment, Elsa felt a bit flustered.

"Yes, I'm doing this for your own good," she explained with a lack of confidence, licking her dry lips.

Her own life was already over, but Luke still had a long way to go. Even if Luke divorced her and married someone else, her goal would be achieved as long as that person wasn't Karen.

As for the hidden pain in her heart, she reasoned it was because Luke was her first man, so she was feeling something she couldn't express openly.

'It's okay. There will be better days,' she thought.

Elsa's bright eyes dimmed slightly, and Luke stared at her without saying another word.

Five minutes later, he stood up abruptly, slammed the door, and left.
