Chapter 322 I Am His Former Subordinate
Hailey pestered Luke to have lunch together and then insisted on visiting a newly opened cat café nearby, which she said was a lot of fun, so they went together.
Luke usually didn't like wasting time on meaningless things, but Hailey's special status made it hard to refuse. His words in the morning had already been quite blunt, and it wouldn't be appropriate to reject her again.
He had recently asked Ian for a favor regarding Elsa, so he couldn't treat Hailey too poorly.
So, Luke postponed his work and really brought her to the café.
"What are you doing here?"
Seeing Elsa, he inexplicably felt a pang of guilt as if he had been caught cheating, but then he saw Leo and felt a surge of jealousy.
If someone like Leo could accompany her to a place that girls liked, there was no way he believed they had nothing going on!
Without thinking, Luke questioned her.
"We're leaving now," Elsa nodded and said, about to walk out.
Leo raised an eyebrow, surprised at how agreeable Elsa suddenly was.
Even Luke, who was involved, was taken aback. She was being unusually compliant today.
"Who are you, and what's your relationship with Luke?" Even Hailey, as slow as she was, could sense something unusual between them and couldn't help but ask.
Before Luke could speak, Elsa immediately smiled and said, "Ms. Phillips, I used to work for Mr. Taylor at Dalton Banks."
Elsa wasn't exactly lying, but she didn't tell the whole truth about their relationship. She considered it a kind omission, but Luke felt uncomfortable hearing it.
Great, she was already starting to distance herself!
Among the people present, only Hailey didn't know about their relationship, so Elsa must have been speaking for her benefit. Elsa was in such a hurry to push him towards Hailey!
Luke's eyes grew colder, and he pressed his lips together, saying nothing more.
"You actually know me!" Hailey smiled sweetly.
"I've heard a lot about you," Elsa didn't dislike her and smiled slightly, "I have something to do, so I'll leave first. Have fun."
She quickly pulled Leo out.
Leo followed behind, puzzled, "Who is that girl? Is she even an adult?"
Elsa's heart was in knots, but she remained calm on the surface, "The mayor's daughter. They are probably dating or on a blind date."
That's why she took the morning off, Karida thought to herself, "So, you're not going back to work this afternoon either. I have another fun place in mind; come with me."
Elsa raised her eyebrows at him, "Are you very free lately?"
Leo rolled his eyes, "You don't appreciate a good person."
He said this in English again; he was really improving fast.
Elsa knew Leo's intention; he just wanted to cheer her up. But if she let her mood affect her work, she wouldn't be Elsa.
"Alright, a miss is a miss. I'm fine," she comforted Leo instead.
Luke watched Elsa's departing figure, feeling a tightness in his chest.
Was she already with Leo? Coming to a cat café during work hours—he had never heard her say she liked cats.
She even deliberately hid their marriage history from Hailey. What did she mean by that?
Because Luke's mind was full of Elsa, he was somewhat inattentive when dealing with Hailey.
She was mumbling something beside him, but he didn't catch it.
"What did you say?"
"I said, that person just now was so beautiful. Was she a model for Dalton Banks?" Hailey knew little about their affairs and didn't even recognize Elsa.
Thinking of Elsa's behavior just now, Luke gritted his teeth, "No, she lied to you. She's my ex-wife, Elsa."
"What?"
Hailey's thoughts were written all over her face; Luke's ex-wife was too beautiful.
"She lied to me! Why did she lie to me?"
"Because she can't let go of me and feels sad," Luke lied without hesitation.
Given Hailey's temper, she might go confront Elsa, and he wanted to see how she would explain.
