Chapter 347 Debbie's Regret
The billboard struck Elsa's right shoulder at a sharp angle, and her white shirt was quickly soaked with blood.
Debbie, who was shielded behind her, narrowly escaped harm. Seeing Elsa in such a state, her face turned pale.
"Get her to the hospital, quick!" Debbie shouted frantically, pressing on Elsa's shoulder.
"It's okay, don't be scared," Elsa said, her face pale and brows furrowed in pain, yet she still tried to comfort her.
She even thought, fortunately, it was her who got hurt. If it had been Debbie, she would have been resented by Debbie for nothing.
The staff member standing on the step stool saw the commotion and panicked, nearly losing his balance and falling.
"Take it easy, it's already happened, being scared won't help," Elsa said.
Her tone was calm, but it was clear she was enduring great pain. At this point, she remained so composed, as if someone else was injured. Debbie recalled Elsa's cold demeanor during their past confrontations and found it somewhat reasonable.
Elsa had saved her. If the sign had hit her head, she would be dead by now.
The Taylor family's car arrived, and they sat in the back seat.
On the way to the hospital, Debbie's hand, covering Elsa's wound, trembled uncontrollably. Her voice was filled with guilt and concern, "Elsa, thank you for saving me in such a situation."
When Elsa was with the Taylor family, Debbie had treated her poorly. Although things improved for a while due to the engagement, after their divorce, she had used Elsa for the Taylor family's stock price. Today, she had come to ask Elsa to stay away from Luke. The contrast made Debbie feel utterly ashamed.
Elsa remained silent.
In fact, it was just her most instinctive reaction. No matter who was standing beside her, her first response would be to step forward.
A 2-inch wound, fractures in the upper arm and scapula.
Looking at the test results and X-rays, Elsa could only lament that this body had suffered greatly with her.
She was in so much pain that she was trembling in the waiting area, with large drops of cold sweat rolling down her forehead.
Debbie initially dared to look, but later turned her face away, her eyes reddening.
"If it hurts, just scream, okay?" After a while, Debbie cautiously coaxed Elsa, taking out a handkerchief to wipe her sweat.
"Surgery right away," the attending physician decided promptly after reviewing the results and scheduled Elsa for surgery.
Anesthesia, steel plates for the fractures, stitching the wound—a series of procedures that lasted until the evening.
Elsa was wheeled out of the operating room.
"How are you feeling?" A familiar voice sounded in her ear. Elsa looked up to see Luke's worried face.
Why was he back? Elsa's first thought was, was he feeling better?
While worried, Elsa didn't want to talk to him. She pursed her lips and closed her eyes again, pretending to sleep.
Seeing Elsa's resistant expression, Luke frowned.
His myocarditis was severe this time. He had planned to follow the doctor's orders and return to Maplewood City only after recovery. But the sudden incident made him rush back regardless.
"It's my fault, I've been wrong all along," Debbie couldn't help but cry when she saw Luke.
"Elsa is such a good girl, and I was hostile to her and hurt her."
"If you still like her, I won't stop you anymore. I support you marrying her!"
Debbie's tears flowed more and more, and eventually, she threw herself into Luke's arms, crying uncontrollably. After much persuasion, Luke finally managed to send the frightened Debbie home to rest.
Looking at Elsa's test results, he felt as if the billboard had hit him, with pain seeping into his bones.
Debbie had done many excessive things, even today asking her to stay away from him and leave Luke to Hailey. Yet, she could step forward to save her and suffer such severe injuries.
Repaying evil with good, indeed.
Luke took over the doctor's job and wheeled Elsa to the hospital room.
Elsa didn't realize it was him until she was transferred from the gurney to the regular bed and sensed something was off.
She suddenly opened her eyes, "Luke, why are you haunting me?"
