Chapter 337 Margaret's Hatred
Margaret quickly learned about Hailey's existence.
She lost her composure for a moment and stormed into Luke's office, eyes red with anger.
Luke looked up from his work. "What did you say?"
He hadn't even registered her words.
Margaret momentarily showed her embarrassment, her aggression waning. "I'm asking, are you with Hailey?"
"Is that any of your business?"
Ever since Margaret failed to seduce Luke that day, she hadn't shown up for a long time. Now that she was here again, and for such a trivial matter, Luke felt nothing but annoyance and didn't even bother to give a perfunctory response.
"I promised Uncle Joe I'd look after you, but that doesn't mean you can keep testing my patience." Luke lightly but firmly slapped the table in front of him, his gaze dark and cold, filled with anger.
Margaret had always relied on their childhood friendship to act a bit spoiled in front of him. She had never seen him this furious.
Now, with Luke in a rage, Margaret didn't dare to speak. She silently began to cry.
Luke was no longer the Luke of the past; he had no place for her in his eyes. He never did. It was she who always thought she could make Luke change his mind.
This realization made Margaret's blood run cold.
"If you have nothing else, you should leave!" Luke coldly dismissed her and left first.
Margaret left the Taylor Group with red eyes. Just as she reached the entrance, she ran into Hailey.
She never thought Luke would like this type of girl, so she took a closer look.
"I know you, Margaret," Hailey said crisply. "Crying won't help; Luke doesn't like you."
Margaret, already filled with hatred, found it even harder to suppress her feelings now.
A flash of malice crossed her eyes. "Ms. Phillips, don't get too cocky. You might find yourself out of favor one day, and then it'll be too late to cry."
Margaret's last hope for Luke was completely shattered today, leaving nothing behind.
But she couldn't let such a humiliation go unpunished.
Margaret clenched her fists and swore to herself: If she couldn't have him, no one else would!
Meanwhile, Elsa had gone to the prairie with Leo.
LEO Gems Company was planning to release a unique line of jewelry and had organized a design team to visit the prairie for inspiration.
Elsa wouldn't miss this learning opportunity and asked Leo for permission to join.
Although the prairie was past its most beautiful season, early autumn still had some greenery. Elsa drove a herder's four-wheel-drive vehicle across the vast prairie, feeling her spirits lift.
"You can submit a design too. If it's selected, the copyright fee is $500,000," Leo said, seeing the excitement in her eyes.
"Deal?"
"Of course."
Elsa planned to bring Vincent out of the care facility, hire a caregiver, and a tutor. She had invested her $10 million in Jonathan's factory, and the $500,000 would be a great help.
She had always been confident in her design talent but had been limited by her education, lacking practical opportunities at LEO Gems Company. Now that she had this chance, she was determined to seize it.
She temporarily put her worries aside and felt a surge of excitement.
Luke found out the next day because Karida sent him a screenshot of her New Feed.
It was Elsa's first New Feed in nearly a year. The last one was the day she and Luke got their marriage certificate.
The New Feed had no caption, just a simple photo: she was bare-faced with two loose braids, wearing a magenta shirt, ripped jeans, and yellow Doc Martens, sitting on a black horse, smiling radiantly.
"Stunning" was the first word that flashed through Luke's mind.
The background was an endless prairie, with the LEO Gems Company design team in the distance. Leo was looking at her from afar, his expression gentle.
Luke hadn't seen her smile so happily in a long time, and his heart raced.
He saved the photo to his phone, crudely cropping out everyone else, and made it his wallpaper.
"Luke, are you free tomorrow? The leaves are red now; let's go to the mountains to see the fall foliage!" Hailey called.
Luke raised an eyebrow. "I'm going to the prairie. Do you want to come?"
"How long will we be there?" Hailey's excitement was unmistakable.
"I can't say for sure. Three days, maybe longer." It depended on when Elsa would return.
"Great! I have lots of pretty clothes I can wear on the prairie!" Hailey was thrilled.
"Luke, we can ride horses there..." Hailey continued excitedly, but Luke hung up the phone.
His plans depended on Elsa; making other arrangements was pointless.
