Chapter 453 Dylan's Death

That's when Elsa remembered she hadn't told Chloe about this yet.

Well, she had been busy comforting Lara all morning.

"Oh my, my bad, I forgot." She quickly gave Chloe a brief rundown of what happened.

"Anyway, it was just a big misunderstanding," she concluded.

After hearing this, Chloe was silent for a moment. "So Jonathan came to see me because of this?"

"Pretty much. I can't think of any other reason."

"I'm not planning to marry him, so why is he explaining this to me? He's being ridiculous." Chloe snorted.

Elsa smiled bitterly. "You may not want to marry him, but he might want to marry you. I can see my uncle is really interested in you now."

Chloe scoffed. "Plenty of men want to marry me. He's got some nerve."

After hanging up, Elsa shook her head with a bitter smile. She didn't know who it was that had been dying over Jonathan just over a month ago. But she was happy that Chloe could move on. As for what happened between her and Jonathan, Elsa didn't want to interfere anymore.

...

The next time Chloe and Jonathan met was at Dylan's funeral.

Dylan's death wasn't surprising. Since Elsa and Chloe were good friends with Jonny, they naturally had to attend.

They both wore somber black dresses that went below the knee and black shoes, showing enough respect to the Jones family. After all, given Dylan's character, it would have been polite enough if they didn't celebrate his death, but proper etiquette was for others to see—they couldn't embarrass Jonny.

Jonny and the other younger family members stood at the entrance greeting guests. From a distance, Elsa could see that his eyes were a bit red.

No matter how terrible Dylan was, he was still his father. Elsa didn't believe Jonny felt any sadness at all.

Then she imagined David's death and suddenly felt at peace. She was certain she wouldn't be sad if David died. Jonny had said his hatred for Dylan was no less than hers for David.

Elsa and Chloe went over and hugged Jonny in turn.

"Jonny, my condolences," Elsa said softly.

"In the end, he never got to see Wind," Jonny said in a voice only the two of them could hear.

Good. Dylan died with regrets, and Jonny got his revenge.

Elsa patted Jonny's back hard twice. Congratulations, you can finally start your own life, she said in her heart.

Walking into the church, they first saw Dylan's first wife, a thin and indifferent woman who politely greeted the guests with no emotion in her eyes.

But Jonny's mother, the woman he described as irresponsible and calculating, Dylan's second wife, surprised them both.

The mother Jonny saw as scheming and cruel had the innocent, timid face of a little girl.

She should have been equally dignified and composed, handling guests with ease.

But she wasn't. She cried uncontrollably, clutching the portrait and refusing to let go, refusing to greet the guests, looking more grief-stricken than an ordinary woman who had lost her husband.

"My condolences," Chloe said.

"Now that he's gone, the rest of my life has no meaning," Jonny's mother murmured, stroking Dylan's portrait.

Elsa and Chloe exchanged glances, finding it hard to believe.

Who would have thought that a man like Dylan would have someone love him with genuine feelings? It was truly eye-opening.

If Jonny's mother had used every means to marry into the Jones family for power and money, Elsa felt she wouldn't think so little of her.

What was there to love about an old man who fooled around all the time... she thought to herself.

While the two were still shocked, a familiar voice spoke up: "Ladies, my condolences."

It was Jonathan.
