Chapter 455 Jonathan Infiltrates the Interior
Chloe left decisively, thinking that if worst came to worst, she'd just withdraw her shares from Poetic Patterns to avoid all this messy entanglement.
To be fair, Poetic Patterns was profitable. Her year-end dividend would even exceed what she made from the club. Chloe was willing to continue with it.
She'd always believed that the end of a physical relationship shouldn't affect their continued business cooperation.
Wasn't there a saying that a woman leaving a man she didn't love should be like a fish leaving a bicycle—completely irrelevant? Then, a man leaving a woman should work the same way.
But Jonathan, who'd always been calm and rational, had been acting unexpectedly crazy lately. She was finding it hard to handle.
However, withdrawing her shares required cooperation from Jonathan, the founder, so it wasn't easy to make it happen. Before this was even settled, Chloe discovered that Jonathan had already contacted her parents.
At dinner one evening, her parents brought up their recent business partner, Jonathan, the CEO of Prosperous Abundance Group. Both of them couldn't stop praising him.
"Mr. King is so handsome and charming. Even though he's only a few years younger than me, we look like we're from different generations. Chloe, Mr. King mentioned that you also have shares in his and Elsa's clothing factory, is that right?" Chloe's father asked.
Chloe chewed the food in her mouth and nodded vaguely, "Yes."
"Are you familiar with his family? Mr. King is single, right? I know he has a son, but I've never heard of his wife being in Maplewood City." Chloe's mother grew curious.
Chloe shook her head with a blank expression, "Not sure, don't know him that well."
"Not well? But he said his mother really likes you."
"Well, I've met her once, but we're not close." Chloe really didn't want to continue this topic. She sped up her eating, wanting to leave the table as soon as possible.
"That's okay, it doesn't matter if you're not familiar. Your grandfather's birthday is this weekend, and I've invited Mr. King over for dinner. You're young, and having this opportunity to work with Mr. King, you should learn more from him. Besides, Mr. King is Elsa's uncle, so he's like an elder to you too." Chloe's father added.
Chloe nearly choked on the soup in her mouth.
If her father knew that she and this "elder" had already been intimate multiple times in bed, he'd probably have a stroke from high blood pressure.
"Why invite an outsider to Grandpa's birthday? I think we shouldn't trouble Mr. King like this." Chloe made one last desperate attempt.
"It was Mr. King who said we should get closer and that he wanted to visit your grandfather. Since your grandfather's birthday is next week, I invited him over." Chloe's mother replied, then as if remembering something, turned to her husband and said, "If Mr. King is single, we could introduce Yvonne to him. Maybe we'd be doing them both a favor."
Yvonne was Chloe's cousin, Yvonne Clark, a beautiful, highly educated 30-year-old single woman.
"They're not suitable!" Chloe blurted out.
Her parents both looked at her. Chloe felt a bit awkward, "The age gap is too big. Mr. King is already 40."
As she said this, she felt guilty herself.
"For ordinary people, a 10-year gap might be a lot, but for Lakeshire City's richest man, it's not that bad. Such an excellent man might actually catch Yvonne's eye." Chloe's mother said.
"Exactly, we'll just create an opportunity for them. What happens next depends on how they get along." Chloe's father chimed in.
Chloe was annoyed at her own overreaction. She'd already broken things off with Jonathan—why should she care who her parents introduced him to?
Besides, if he got together with Yvonne, wouldn't it be better if he stopped bothering her? But would he fall for Yvonne?
Probably not. After all, no one could surpass his ex-wife's place in his heart.
"Why are you only eating rice and no vegetables? This child is acting strange today." Chloe's mother put some food in her bowl.
