Chapter 249 David's Smuggling

Luke hadn't been home for several days.

No matter how much he didn't want to admit it, he knew he was afraid to face Elsa, who wanted a divorce and no longer saw him in her eyes.

Avoidance is shameful, but useful.

To prevent Elsa from doing anything rash, he had Lisa put away all the sharp objects in the house. If she wanted to wreck the place, so be it; she could do whatever she wanted as long as she caused no harm to herself.

After all, Elsa had come from hard times and still cherished things. When she saw that Luke didn't react after a day of smashing things, she lost interest.

He watched through the surveillance cameras as she went to the door to argue with the bodyguards a few times. When negotiations failed, she started to sulk in her room.

'Wasn't that tall bodyguard speaking a bit too loudly to her?' Luke thought as he listened, frowning in displeasure.

He said, "Go tell them to be more polite to Elsa and not to scare her."

"Mr. Taylor, he just has a naturally loud voice," Max explained. He was speechless. This bodyguard was over six feet tall and weighed more than 200 pounds; it was normal for his voice to be louder. He had been with Luke for years and had always spoken at this volume.

Besides, did Luke misunderstand Elsa? Did he really think someone like Elsa would be scared by a loud voice?

"Then get a bodyguard with a softer voice," Lukeuttered and shot him a glare.

She was already in a bad mood being confined at home; they couldn't afford to be careless about these little details!

Max suddenly remembered Elsa's comment, "Is there something wrong with Luke's brain?" He couldn't agree more.

It's fine for a man to dote on his wife, but to such an obsessive extent, only Luke could achieve that.

The next day, Chloe went to the apartment to find Elsa but couldn't see her, so she knew that Luke had confined her at home.

Later, when Elsa told Chloe about Luke's actions, Chloe was both amused and exasperated.

"So, are you still going to get a divorce? Do you want me to call the police for you?" she asked.

"No need. I'll wait for him to come back and have a formal talk. If that doesn't work, I'll think of something else," Elsa said.

These days, being alone at home, Elsa often thought about the good things Luke had done for her.

She resembled a stray cat he had picked up, cleaned, fed, and accompanied, making her gradually forget her days of wandering and get used to warmth.

Because of his negligence, she lost their child, and she only briefly hated him for it.

The more she thought about it, the more afraid she became. How could she let her fate be in Luke's hands like this?

If Luke loved her, she was happy; if he didn't, she would fall into the abyss.

Just like when she was kidnapped by a criminal, her first reaction was to contact Luke.

In the past, wouldn't she have called the police first?

The more she thought about it, the more Elsa felt that this marriage had to end.

She was just waiting for Luke to come back for one more negotiation.

After waiting for five days, Luke didn't come back, but she received a call from Karen first.

"Elsa, you bitch! Don't think I don't know; this must be your doing!" As soon as the call connected, Karen's hysterical voice came through in a panic.

"Are you crazy? I haven't even settled the score with you yet!" Elsa hung up. At that moment, a news alert popped up: Maplewood City police intercepted a smuggling ship, involving a huge amount of money.

She clicked on it, and in the news photo, the police were taking away two men. Although their faces were blurred, Elsa immediately recognized the taller one was David!
