Chapter 269 Luke Took Action
"Ms. Miller figured out the toast was freshly made this morning and understood everything," Max said.
"Did she ask for coffee too?" This coffee must be a test of boundaries. If he were ruthless enough, he should let her suffer a few more days!
Thinking of Elsa made Luke furious. She had figured out his thoughts, knowing that he wouldn't just sit by and do nothing.
Their relationship, from the beginning until now, was never under his control.
After all, she had long repaid what she owed him, so she had no psychological burden later on.
She took a bullet for him and lost a child for him. To keep him from being implicated, she tried to commit suicide with a nail clipper!
She didn't care about appearances or methods, as long as they worked. Currently, to Elsa, her ex-husband was very useful.
She was arrogant and fearless! His brow twitched, and his heart felt numb.
"Did Elsa agree to remarry?" That day when Luke came back from visiting the detention center, he was furious. Max didn't dare to ask.
Seeing Luke arranging everything for her, he was unsure again.
"If she doesn't agree, should I just ignore her?" Luke shot a glance at him. "Max, do you know why, after I taught you poker, you still can't play well, while Elsa can win nine out of ten games?"
"Because Ms. Miller is smarter than me," Max said.
"No, it's because she understands human nature better than you do. She can manipulate it and can afford to lose." The first time they met at the poker table, Luke was secretly amazed by Elsa's calm demeanor.
After observing her for a long time, Luke realized Elsa feared nothing, so she could bear all consequences.
This time, she was betting that Luke would save her. Even if he didn't, she could accept the worst outcome.
Every time he thought of Elsa, Luke's teeth itched. He calmed himself and rubbed his brow. "Did you get the information I asked for?"
Max quickly took out the documents from his briefcase.
It was evidence of David's money laundering. Two companies under the Miller Group laundered over $90 million through self-buying and self-selling.
The amount wasn't huge. To be honest, it wasn't just the Miller Group; none of these prominent companies were 100% clean. Otherwise, Brian wouldn't have made a fortune by making a glove.
But the key point was that this money was tied to Ian Phillips, who was just one step away from becoming mayor.
"What do we do next?" For the first time, Max showed a look of panic in front of Luke.
This was no small matter. Money and power transactions always depended on whether the person in power was willing to play ball. Now, Luke was openly challenging authority, making Max's scalp tingle.
"Set up a meeting with him for me," Luke said, pressing his lips together.
"Mr. Taylor, it's fine if the talks go well, but what if they fall apart?" If Ian knew Luke had evidence against him, he might make things difficult for the Taylor Group in the future.
"Max, this is the only thing I can do. I have no other choice."
If Max wasn't mistaken, that look in Luke's eyes was a sign of vulnerability towards the unknown.
