Chapter 53 Is He Cheating
[Twenty years later, the Taylor family's eldest grandson should marry the Miller family's eldest daughter. With jade pendants and marriage certificates as proof, Rhys Taylor.]
The familiar notes were written by the grandfather.
There was no mention of his fiancée's name above, only 'the Miller family's eldest daughter.' In the years before his grandfather's passing, he suffered from severe Alzheimer's disease. When the Miller family came to visit, he no longer recognized anyone, so the Taylor family naturally regarded Karen as the Miller family's only daughter.
Although the Miller family was prominent in Maplewood City's elite circles, the Taylor family was a long-standing aristocratic family, and there was a great difference between them and the rapidly rising Miller family. Therefore, the elders of the Taylor family could not understand Rhys's intentions.
Debbie had agreed to this marriage for two reasons: firstly, to respect Rhys. Secondly, because Karen had a good reputation in public. As a pianist with a decent profession, she barely lived up to the title of the Taylor family's young lady.
If Debbie knew the card was in Elsa's hands, she would never want to acknowledge it.
Elsa was a bit older than Karen, which made her the true eldest daughter of the Miller family.
This card was important to Elsa, but that stubborn woman had insisted on taking the wrong path and had refused to show it to him. Luke couldn't fathom what she was thinking.
When Elsa entered the study, she saw Luke sitting at the desk, his brow furrowing as he studied the card.
"Surprised, aren't you? I have to do everything I can to win back my own fiancé," she said as her heart skipped a beat in a self-deprecating tone.
"Why didn't you just tell me?" Luke looked up at her, his deep eyes shining unusually under the study's light.
"I didn't tell you because I care about this relationship. I want you to marry me because of love, not because of an agreement."
The real reason was that Elsa couldn't gauge Luke's attitude toward Karen at that time. Without the token in her hands, she lacked the confidence to make Luke agree to those words based solely on the card. All of this had been kept hidden in Elsa's heart.
She walked over and sat on Luke's lap, embracing his neck as she looked into his starry eyes.
"I achieved my goal, right?" She gazed intently at him, waiting for his answer.
"Of course." Luke was clearly enjoying this and reaching out to hold her waist.
The atmosphere between them grew warmer. Elsa was initially very clear-headed, but she became completely flustered after Luke unhooked her bra with one hand.
In the solemn study, the atmosphere reached its peak, and their breathing gradually intensified.
Luke's phone rang at an inappropriate moment.
Normally, he wouldn't answer it. Elsa ignored it, holding onto Luke.
"Just a moment." Luke said hoarsely, setting Elsa down from his lap, straightening his clothes, and walking out while answering the phone.
"Margaret!"
Elsa was left alone in the study.
She could tell that it wasn't Luke's usual ringtone.
'Who is Margaret? Judging by the name, she must be a woman, and Luke's tone is unusually gentle,' Elsa thought.
"I'm going to the airport to pick someone up. You should rest early, don't wait for me."
As Elsa was lost in thought, she received a message from Luke on Facebook. When she looked out the second-floor window, all she could see were the taillights of Luke's car.
'Who could Luke be picking up so late at night?' Elsa pondered.
"Do you think Luke might be cheating?" Elsa had only been in love once, if she counted Luke marrying her as love. She knew very little about romantic relationships between men and women, so she turned to Chloe for advice via video.
After Chloe asked what happened, she nodded very confidently.
"The person he's going to pick up at this hour must be a woman, so the chances that he's cheating are very high."
When she saw Elsa's displeased expression, she added, "It's okay. You don't love him anyway, so you won't lose anything as long as the person he's cheating with isn't Karen. By the way, did you hear the name of that woman?"
