Chapter 72 Nathan Wants to See His Sister-in-law
When Luke returned to the villa, he was still angry with Elsa.
"Mr. Taylor, why did you come back alone? Where's Mrs. Taylor? I even made chicken soup for her," Lisa said, noticing Luke's dark expression and quickly greeting him.
"Are you all being nice to Elsa just because of me?" Luke suddenly asked, recalling Max's phone call.
"I don't know about others, but I'm not. Although Mrs. Taylor doesn't talk much, she's very kind and soft-hearted. I like Mrs. Taylor," Lisa replied. Having worked for wealthy families for many years, she had seen her share of arrogance, but Elsa was the first who was easy to serve.
"Once, Mrs. Taylor wanted to keep me from cooking lunch and said she had no appetite when I cut my hand while working. But I found that she quietly went to the kitchen in the afternoon to make oatmeal."
"Really?"
Elsa had never shown this side of herself to Luke.
'Elsa is like a porcupine, always keeping her soft side hidden. Her rare moments of tenderness are always in secret,' Luke thought, then sighed.
"Heat up the chicken soup. In a while, have the driver take you to Valley of Hope Hospital. She almost drowned and needs to be hospitalized for observation. You can stay with her for a few days."
"Mrs. Taylor almost drowned? Okay, I'll go right away," Lisa said, shocked, and hurried to the kitchen to pack.
'Elsa might have done this because Margaret said something hurtful. But no matter what, risking her life is not the answer!' Luke thought.
Luke sat on the sofa, smoking half a pack of cigarettes before he calmed down a bit. His phone rang again. It was his aunt.
"Luke, Nathan has stopped crying, but now he's insisting on going to the hospital to see his sister-in-law. Can you take him there?" his aunt asked.
Luke was about to refuse when Nathan took the phone.
"Brother, I want to see my sister-in-law, please," Nathan's innocent voice came through, full of eagerness.
"You're still young. You can't just like someone because they're pretty and you have to consider their character too," Luke said, his anger subsiding a bit as he patiently tried to reason with Nathan.
"I like my sister-in-law. I want to see her," Nathan insisted.
"Alright, Luke, I'll have the driver bring Nathan to you, and you can take him to the hospital," his aunt said briefly before hanging up, not giving Luke a chance to refuse.
The driver had already taken Lisa to the hospital, so Luke drove another car with Nathan.
For his meeting with Elsa, Nathan had changed into an exaggerated plaid suit, complete with a bow tie, and was holding a large bouquet of carnations.
As Luke drove, he glanced at Nathan in the rearview mirror and frowned, saying, "How much do you like Elsa?"
"A lot," Nathan said, looking a bit embarrassed.
"Do you like her even if she's a bad person?"
"Sister-in-law is not a bad person," Nathan said, his face turning serious and his tone firm.
"She dragged your sister Margaret into the lake. Isn't she being a bad person?"
"Why do you say that?" Nathan looked puzzled.
Then he added, "But I only saw sister Margaret jump into the lake to swim first, and then sister-in-law jumped in herself. But it seemed like sister-in- law couldn't swim and almost drowned."
Nathan said, patting his chest dramatically as if to calm himself, "Nathan was so scared!"
Luke was startled by Nathan's words.
Suddenly, Luke understood why Elsa had that expression when he scolded her.
He had only listened to Debbie and Margaret's side of the story and never gave Elsa a chance to speak.
