Chapter 443 Why Are You Distancing Yourself From Me

Giselle had been in the hospital for over a week. By the time she was discharged, she had lost a noticeable amount of weight and looked even more frail.

She was naturally sensitive, fragile, and prone to suspicion. Initially, she thought that being hospitalized would earn her some sympathy. No matter how dissatisfied Jonathan was with her, he would likely let things go considering she only had a few months left.

But things didn't go as she had planned.

During her week-long stay in the hospital, Jonathan didn't visit her once. Giselle subtly tried to get information from Lara, but all Lara said was that Jonathan was busy with a project and might come by the next day.

Originally, her illness was half real, half exaggerated. But Jonathan's absence only deepened her worries, and her condition worsened over the following days.

Feeling despondent and reflective in the hospital, she decided she couldn't spend the rest of her life like this.

The first thing she did after being discharged was corner Jonathan in his study.

In the past, when Jonathan knew Giselle was being discharged, he would always gather the family to warmly welcome her home. Now, he didn't even step out of his study.

Giselle knocked on the door. "Come in," came the voice from inside.

"Jonathan, we need to talk." She stood at his study door, looking both sorrowful and determined.

Jonathan looked up from his work to see her.

She had lost more weight, her eyes sunken deeply into her face. If she had once been delicately pretty, now her illness had stripped away her beauty, leaving only a pitiable figure.

She only had a few months left to live. What did it matter if she had made some huge mistakes?

Jonathan felt a pang of sympathy and closed his folder with a sigh. "Come in, Giselle."

Giselle walked up to his desk, her eyes fixed on Jonathan. "Can you tell me why you've been avoiding me? Is it just because… I have feelings for you?"

"Don't overthink it. The Prosperous Abundance Group took on a big project, and it's been very demanding," Jonathan said, his expression unchanged.

"But in the past, you would never go seven days without visiting me. No matter how busy you were, you always found time to see me when I was in the hospital."

The only reason Giselle could think of was that Chloe had interfered, causing Jonathan to distance himself from her.

"Is it Chloe making you avoid me? Jonathan, if my presence is affecting your relationship, I can leave…" Her emotions were getting the better of her, and tears began to fall.

"Giselle, stop asking. Let's put this behind us," Jonathan said, trying to be patient and not wanting to embarrass her.

"Jonathan, the doctor says I don't have much time left. For the sake of my impending death, give me some clarity. If my presence is disturbing you and Chloe, I will go."

Giselle had always been considerate and perceptive, but now she was causing a scene, and it was getting on Jonathan's nerves. He waved his hand and leaned back in his chair. "Originally, I wanted to let this go, but since you insist on knowing, I'll tell you."
