Chapter 141 Luring the Tiger Away from the Mountain
Luke really shouldn't have left Elsa hanging like that, especially in such a sketchy situation.
Elsa leaned back against the headboard, trying to piece together what went down before she blacked out. Slowly, it all started coming back.
She remembered Jonathan swooping in like a hero at the last second, saving her from the mess. Meanwhile, Luke was off with Margaret, looking after Joe.
"Thanks for squeezing me into your busy schedule. Don't worry, I'm not dying or anything. Not like I'm a cancer patient needing your care," Elsa snapped, waving Luke off.
"Elsa, it's on me that you were in danger. Don't drag others into this," Luke said, seeing her anger and weak state, trying to explain.
He figured he should give Elsa a once-over to make sure she was really okay.
As for Dylan, a flash of cold anger crossed Luke's eyes.
"Random people knew exactly when Dylan would come after me. Perfect distraction," Elsa said.
Dylan knew Luke was with Joe. Elsa couldn't believe that Margaret was completely innocent in all of this.
"Why do you always assume the worst in people? Uncle Joe's illness isn't fake. No matter how bratty Margaret is, she wouldn't joke about his health!" Luke frowned, wondering why Elsa was so prickly.
He explained, "Uncle Joe wasn't well this afternoon, so I took him for a check-up. It wasn't to ditch you for Margaret."
"If you say so," Elsa muttered, looking down.
She couldn't prove Dylan and Margaret were in cahoots, and it was clear Luke trusted Margaret more right now.
Seeing Elsa's attitude, Luke felt a surge of anger. She clearly didn't believe him!
Just as he was about to say something, Elsa's phone rang.
"Hey, Jonny," Elsa said, glancing at Luke and answering the call.
Luke perked up at Jonny's name, anticipating an apology for the night's chaos. He didn't catch what Jonny said, only that Elsa kept reassuring him.
Jonny appeared to have invited Elsa for a meal. She glanced at Luke again and said, "Okay, see you tomorrow then."
By the time Luke and Elsa got home from the hospital, it was almost dawn.
"I'll get you a day off tomorrow. Rest up," Luke said, seeing Elsa ignoring him. He settled her in bed and was about to head to the study.
"I'm gonna take a shower," Elsa said, still weak but disgusted by Dylan's touch, forcing herself to the bathroom.
In the end, Luke didn't go to the study.
Elsa took forever in the shower. Luke listened to the water running for nearly an hour before pushing the door open, finding her eyes red from crying.
No matter how mad he was, it melted away. Luke sighed, grabbed a towel, wrapped Elsa in it, and carried her to the bedroom.
Elsa was downcast, curling up in the towel without saying a word.
Luke found her body lotion, pumped some into his palm, and gently applied it to her shoulders, neck, limbs, waist, and abdomen.
Both stayed silent. Her stiff body trembled slightly, gradually warming up.
"Let's sleep," Elsa finally said, putting on pajamas and curling up in Luke's arms.
Once her breathing steadied, Luke took out his phone to contact Max. Dylan was gonna pay for messing with his people.
