Chapter 199 Does This Necklace Look Familiar to You?

Elsa just smirked a bit but kept quiet, her eyes full of sarcasm.

Luke felt a stab in his chest.

"What do you want from me?" he sighed, leaning in to kiss her tear-streaked eyes.

Elsa pulled back into his coat, clearly not wanting any of it.

Jasmine was just out to cause trouble that night. Even though Elsa didn't let her win and had the upper hand, she still felt wronged.

Debbie's words didn't help either; they made her feel even more accused.

Her comeback to Debbie wasn't off the mark.

Luke thought about how he hadn't stood up for Elsa, who was always sharp-tongued. Instead, he asked her to tone it down. Yeah, he messed up.

She had every right to be mad.

Luke wanted to go back and make things right, but Elsa wasn't giving him the chance.

If she had blown up, he could've smoothed things over with sweet talk and a gift. But now, Elsa was like a hurt little hedgehog, curling up again.

"I didn't mean to say you were wrong today. I just hoped you'd cut Mom some slack in front of others," Luke said softly, but Elsa just stared at one spot, not saying a word.

By the time they got home, it was already past 9 PM.

Lisa was still up, waiting in the living room. Elsa was so down she went straight upstairs without even saying hi.

"Make some late-night snacks for Elsa," Luke told Lisa as he followed Elsa upstairs.

Elsa had a sensitive stomach. She hadn't eaten much at the Taylor Family Estate, and if she didn't eat something, she'd be in pain again at night.

"I'm not eating," Elsa finally spoke up.

"No way. You can be mad at me all you want after you eat, but you have to eat." Luke showed his firm side again.

Elsa let out a cold laugh and went into the study.

Lisa was quick, and in about ten minutes, she brought a bowl of chicken soup upstairs.

"How's she doing?" Luke asked, looking at the study door from his seat in the hall, waiting for Lisa to come out.

"She seems okay. Ms. Miller is hard to read, whether she's happy or not," Lisa said honestly. It looked like Luke and Elsa had argued again.

"Women need to be comforted. Ms. Miller is so pitiful; she needs even more comfort," Lisa added.

Luke nodded, feeling really frustrated.

He wanted to comfort her, but Elsa wasn't giving him a chance to talk.

"Go back to your room and rest," Luke told Lisa.

In the past, he would've lit a cigarette, but ever since Karida mentioned he shouldn't smoke while trying to conceive, he hadn't touched one in days.

He sat in the hall for a while, seeing that Elsa had no intention of coming out, so he went back to his room to wash up.

After his shower, Luke leaned against the headboard, scrolling through his phone for over an hour, but Elsa still hadn't come to bed.

Was Elsa planning to sleep in a different room because she was pissed?

The thought gave Luke a headache. Sighing, he went to find Elsa.

The light in the study was still on.

"Can I come in?" Luke knocked on the door.

Elsa made a sound in response.

Luke pushed the door open and saw Elsa putting her emotional diary back on the shelf. The tension from the car ride was still there, and now, the air seemed to freeze as their eyes met.

"Why didn't you eat the late-night snack?" Luke asked, frowning at the bowl of cold chicken soup on the table.

Elsa didn't answer. After putting away the diary, she took out a small dark red velvet box from the bookshelf.

'Isn't this the thing David sent the other day?' Luke thought.

He recognized it immediately and watched her silently as she handed the box to him.

"Does this necklace look familiar to you?" Elsa asked.
