Chapter 236 The Lipstick Stain on the Shirt Collar
Margaret contacted Luke late at night because she didn't want Ernesto to touch her and was locked in the underground wine cellar.
Luke went through a lot of trouble and didn't rescue her until dawn.
"I'm sorry, I thought getting a boyfriend would help me forget you, but I can't." After pretending for a while, Margaret used her old trick again, hugging Luke and crying non-stop.
Luke was worried about Elsa and was annoyed by her crying.
"Margaret, I'm a married man. I hope you can handle your own affairs properly. There won't be a next time." He frowned and said to Margaret, pulling her off him.
By the time Luke got home, dawn had already broken. Elsa was curled up on the first floor couch, watching a movie on her tablet, with huge dark circles under her eyes.
"Go upstairs and sleep." Luke felt sorry for her and reached out to carry her upstairs.
Elsa heard the fatigue in his voice, and her anger subsided a bit, so she didn't resist.
Being carried upstairs by Luke, she looked up at him halfway and murmured, "Honey..."
Her gaze fell on the collar of Luke's white shirt.
"What's wrong?" Luke looked down at her, and Elsa was already furious.
"Put me down!" She struggled with force and landed on the ground from Luke's arms.
Luke was afraid of hurting her and the baby, so he bent down carefully.
"Luke, you didn't even bother to cover it up and just came back like this?" Elsa inquired angrily.
The perfume on him was women's perfume, and there was a lipstick mark on his shirt collar. Elsa was trembling with anger, confronting him.
"What did I cover up?" Luke saw her anger and patiently coaxed her, "Margaret was locked in the wine cellar by Ernesto, and Uncle Joe was worried, so he asked me to rescue her."
"So you rescued her all the way to the bed?" Elsa showed a mocking smile.
"Who gets locked in a wine cellar all night, still wearing perfume and lipstick? Luke, can you at least make up a better lie next time? I thought you were someone who would at least admit to cheating openly." Her tone was cold, extremely disappointed. Then she glared at Luke and started packing her things in the room.
Luke was baffled by Elsa's anger, afraid she would harm herself, so he quickly followed her.
Following her into the bedroom, Luke saw Elsa's makeup mirror and finally understood what she meant.
There was a lipstick mark from Margaret on his shirt!
It must have been from when she was crying in his arms earlier. If Elsa hadn't pointed it out, he wouldn't have noticed. Indeed, Margaret was a bit too well-groomed for someone who had been in a wine cellar.
"She got the lipstick on me when she was crying just now. If you don't believe me, I'll call the police station that coordinated last night," He hurriedly explained to Elsa.
Elsa didn't say anything, just took out a suitcase and started packing.
"What are you doing!" Luke panicked and hugged her from behind.
"Let go!" Elsa didn't turn around, her tone icy.
"Honey, believe me." Luke tried to kiss her ear, but she elbowed him.
"There won't be a next time. If she encounters any problems in the future, I won't leave you in the middle of the night, okay?" Luke, acknowledging his fault, continued to placate Elsa.
This trust crisis was ultimately alleviated by the police station's issuance of the incident report and the interrogation records of Ernesto, preventing Elsa from leaving home in anger.
But she was so angry that she had a severe reaction and had to be rushed to the hospital to save the baby.
To this day, Luke no longer believes that Margaret is inherently good. She says she likes him, but she always puts him in difficult situations, with ulterior motives.
