Chapter 339 Residence

"That's my ex-husband, Luke," Elsa said.

"No way?" A designer was momentarily at a loss for words, feeling extremely awkward.

As they reached the uphill road, the SUV slowed down. The sound of hooves approached from afar and caught up with them.

Everyone looked out, and Luke had already taken off his sunglasses.

He held the reins in his left hand and gripped the pole with his right. His long legs, clad in riding boots, clamped against the horse's belly as he galloped forward. Those deep-set eyes and high-bridged nose—who else could it be but Luke?

The two designers exchanged awkward glances, but Elsa remained calm, simply pulling her head back inside the window after looking at the scenery.

"What's he doing here?" Leo asked.

Elsa shrugged. "Who knows? Maybe he's here to keep Ms. Phillips company."

When they arrived at the rancher's place, the convoy gradually came to a stop. Elsa noticed that the two other vehicles had also parked next door.

Sure enough, Hailey was there.

Elsa watched as Hailey, dressed in a red dress, emerged from the lead car and ran towards Luke on horseback, as excited as a bird freed from its cage.

In the second car were Terry and Karida, who waved at Elsa from a distance.

Elsa smiled and nodded in response.

Hailey first ran to the front of Luke's horse, showering him with compliments. Luke ignored her, dismounted, and glanced in Elsa's direction.

Only then did Hailey follow Luke's gaze and notice Elsa.

Remembering the humiliation in her office that day, Hailey's expression changed, and she finally didn't dare to speak.

Elsa watched coldly as Luke dismounted and stood next to Hailey.

He could bring her thousands of miles to the prairie and stay in the same place, so he must be planning to develop a long-term relationship with her, leading to marriage, right?

Luke's job was so busy, yet he could take time off to accompany Hailey to the prairie. The power of love was truly strong.

He had loved her too, but at that time, she was solely focused on revenge and never thought about traveling with Luke like an ordinary couple. Her chest felt heavy, and Elsa turned to follow her colleagues into the rancher's home.

The rancher's home lacked the flashy concepts of tourist spots. It had a round glass skylight, allowing them to see clouds during the day and stars at night.

There were few entertainment activities on the prairie. As soon as it got dark, her colleagues had already washed up and were lying down, playing on their phones.

Elsa sat on the bed in a daze, her mind filled with thoughts of how Luke and Hailey would sleep.

They were a couple, so they should be sleeping together, right?

Then what was he to her?

The more she thought about it, the more her chest felt blocked, and her breathing became labored.

Elsa went to a nearby store to buy a pack of cigarettes from the rancher and went out alone to smoke under the moonlight.

The smoke was a bit harsh. Elsa took two deep puffs, and her lungs hurt along with her chest.

Next door, there was a similarly silent, tall figure. Before she could see clearly, she heard Hailey's voice: "Luke, the hot water is ready. You can take a shower now."

Hailey hugged Luke's arm.

Elsa hid in the darkness, watching them go inside. The cigarette in her hand burned out, scorching her finger without her noticing.

Of course, Luke could be with Hailey. He was no longer her husband.

But why did her chest hurt so much?

How hypocritical, Elsa. You didn't want to remarry, yet you didn't want Luke to love someone else.

She wished she could slap herself!

The temperature difference on the prairie in early autumn was significant. The night wind blew with a chill, and Elsa sneezed three times in a row.

She wrapped her coat tightly around herself, stubbornly refusing to go back to sleep, staring in the direction of the next door without moving.

About ten minutes later, Hailey ran out, rubbing her eyes as she ran, probably crying.

Watching Hailey's back, the huge stone in her heart finally fell.

Then she sighed again. Elsa, how could you be so mean? Hailey did nothing wrong; she just liked Luke.

You didn't want to remarry, yet you couldn't stand him liking someone else. How could everything in the world go your way?

She fell into a strong sense of moral self-condemnation, smoking half a pack of cigarettes under the moonlight before turning back.

Went to sleep. Once you woke up, it wouldn't hurt so much. It was late, and Elsa slowly walked back to her place.

Her mind was full of Luke, not noticing the sound behind her. She hadn't walked far before she was grabbed by the waist and pulled into Luke's broad chest.
