Chapter 409 Giselle Fainted
Elsa was frail, and Luke was tall and strong, so he easily pulled her out of the car.
She was caught off guard as Luke grabbed her and they sprinted away, just as the car behind them exploded with a deafening boom.
Luke instinctively shielded her with his body.
"It exploded!" Someone shouted.
The smell of gunpowder filled the air, and the parking lot descended into chaos.
"Are you okay, babe?" Luke asked, helping Elsa up from the ground and checking her over.
Seeing that she was unharmed, he let out a barely noticeable sigh of relief and brushed the dust off her dress.
Elsa, ever composed, only showed a fleeting moment of panic before regaining her calm.
The hospital security called the police, and fearing a secondary explosion, they cordoned off the parking lot. No one dared to approach the car.
Elsa stared at the barricade, then turned to look at Luke.
"Thanks for protecting me," she said, her face expressionless but her eyes glistening with emotion.
Luke, worried she might be crying, pulled her into his arms and gently brushed her eyelashes with his thumb. "No need to thank your own man."
Thankfully, she wasn't crying.
Luke's touch was warm and dry, and though Elsa said nothing, she felt a softness in her heart.
Meanwhile, Jonathan had driven Chloe back to her apartment.
"Thanks," Chloe said, looking down.
Since Elsa and Vincent had moved into the King Villa, Jonathan had been busy enjoying family time and hadn't visited Chloe's place in a while.
She wasn't sure if she should invite him up.
"Aren't you going to invite me in?" Jonathan asked, unbuckling his seatbelt and looking at her leisurely.
Chloe hesitated. "Is it convenient?"
Jonathan raised an eyebrow. "I don't think you left your car at the hospital just to get a ride home from me."
Chloe's face turned red.
She cherished her time alone with Jonathan so much that when Luke asked if she had driven, she had lied without thinking. Now, Jonathan had seen right through her, and she felt embarrassed.
"Did you miss me?" Jonathan leaned in, brushing aside the hair that had fallen over her face.
Chloe remained silent.
"You're so quick-witted when complaining to Elsa about Giselle. Why are you so quiet with me?"
Jonathan's tone was unreadable, but Chloe cared about him, so she took it to heart.
He must have overheard her complaining to Elsa and thought she was pretending to be demure around him.
Chloe didn't know how to explain herself and felt even more embarrassed.
"Alright, alright, why are you so easy to tease?"
Jonathan's playful scolding had a hint of genuine affection.
To him, Chloe's silence around him was a typical girl's tactic, like how some girls never eat their fill in front of men. It wasn't a big deal, just a quirk.
Seeing Chloe's embarrassed expression, Jonathan quickly cupped her face to comfort her.
"I've had a long day and I'm tired. How about a cup of coffee?"
Chloe couldn't refuse him. If she could, she wouldn't have been so passive from the start.
Jonathan used the excuse of coffee to go upstairs. As soon as they entered her apartment, he pinned her against the wall.
"Did you miss me?" He asked again.
When Chloe didn't respond, he slipped his hand under her shirt, teasing her.
Chloe made a sound of discomfort, and Jonathan felt a fire in his belly, struggling with his desire.
Just as things were heating up, Jonathan's phone rang.
Normally, he wouldn't answer at a time like this, but it was Lara's special ringtone.
"Giselle fainted again! Get to the hospital, quick!" Lara shouted on the other end.
