Chapter 149 Do I Still Have a Chance to Explain?

When Luke rolled up to the crib, Elsa was MIA.

"Mrs. Taylor's on a business trip. She didn't give you the heads-up?" Lisa explained, looking all kinds of nervous as she trailed behind Luke.

"I've made it clear, I need to know everything about her," Luke said as he called Sylvie.

"Elsa said you gave the green light," Sylvie replied, sounding puzzled.

"That's BS. I didn't sign off on anything."

Sylvie went quiet for a sec, then said, "Dude, your vibe with your wife is way off."

"What are you getting at?"

Sylvie stated, "She's a grown woman, not a kid. She doesn't need you micromanaging her life."

"Nope, to me, she's like a toddler."

"Mr. Taylor, your possessiveness is next-level creepy," Sylvie said after a pause.

Luke knew he was possessive but didn't bother arguing. He'd rearranged his flight to see Elsa and explain things last night, but she had bounced quick.

He called Elsa again, and this time she picked up.

"Elsa, why didn't you clue me in about the trip?" Luke tried to sound chill but came off harsh.

"Mr. Taylor, I'm on a business trip to Silverwood Falls. Back in a week." Elsa's voice was ice-cold.

She called him Mr. Taylor! Luke was fuming. Before he could clap back, she hung up.

Elsa took the trip to get some headspace. Silverwood Falls was just a 20-minute drive from Light City, making it easy to keep tabs on the Jones family project. Dylan had HPV and was slacking on family duties, so the power shifted to Jonny, making her job a breeze.

The crew rolled into Silverwood Falls around 5 PM. After checking in, they grabbed dinner and took a stroll. By 9 PM, they were back at the hotel.

"Evening, Mr. Taylor." As soon as they hit the lobby, the chatty colleagues zipped it and greeted Luke, who was chilling on the sofa with a coffee.

Shouldn't he be in Maplewood City? Did he seriously follow me? Elsa wondered, feeling a pang of guilt for ghosting him twice. She kept her mouth shut.

"I'm starving. Let's head to the room for a snack," Luke said, ignoring her look and wrapping an arm around her waist.

Elsa tensed up, and Luke recalled the first time he embraced her; she was equally tense. On that occasion, she awkwardly tried to act confident and experienced. If he hadn't gone along with it, she wouldn't have been able to persuade him to sleep with her.Elsa resisted his touch, which only ticked Luke off more. He tightened his grip.

"I'm crashing with Ruby tonight," she blurted out.

"Really?" Luke shot a look at Ruby.

"No way, Elsa, you should bunk with Mr. Taylor. I snore like a chainsaw. I'll head up first!" Ruby quickly caught on to Luke's look.

"We'll head up first, Mr. Taylor," the group said, making a beeline for the elevator.

Luke and Elsa drew the staff's attention.

"If you don't want me to carry you out, play nice," Luke whispered, steering her to his Presidential Suite.

Within five minutes, someone brought up a late-night snack: borscht and Italian sausage.

Elsa wasn't feeling it, but Luke was clearly starving, downing two bowls of soup.

After a long trip and two flights, he must be wiped.

Elsa didn't want to beef anymore. She decided to let it slide this time.

"Didn't catch much sleep last night?" Luke asked, noticing her dark circles.

"Nope, didn't sleep a wink," Elsa said, trying to keep her cool.

Luke sighed, pushed the dishes aside, and pulled Elsa onto his lap.

"Can I explain?" He rested his chin on her shoulder, his voice low and worn out.
