Chapter 447 Luke's Preference
Giselle's move was ruthless. Everyone knew Elsa was her target, but Giselle managed to twist the situation, making it look like Lara was to blame instead.
This made Elsa seem like she was just causing trouble.
Lara's face darkened. "Elsa, Grandma's handling of things last time was unfair. If you're still upset, I'm sorry."
During Elsa and Giselle's previous conflict, Lara had urged Elsa to be forgiving. When Elsa didn't come back to the King Manor for days afterward, Lara realized she'd been wrong and felt guilty for a while.
Seeing Elsa's sarcastic tone now, Lara sighed deeply, thinking Elsa was dredging up old grievances.
After all, Elsa wasn't her biological child; she could love her, but she couldn't discipline her.
"It's my fault. I don't have many months left. Grandma pitied me and was biased. Please don't take it to heart," Giselle said, seeing Lara's sadness and adding fuel to the fire. "Elsa, if you're angry, just blame me. Don't upset Grandma."
The villain had positioned herself on the moral high ground.
Such a reversal of right and wrong was infuriating. Elsa almost laughed in anger. She glanced at Jonathan, who seemed completely unbothered, and felt even more enraged.
Giselle's ability to win people over was far superior to hers.
"Ms. Montague, you know exactly what you've done. Your tricks might fool Grandma and Uncle, but they won't work on me!" Elsa spat coldly before storming off.
"Elsa!" Jonathan stood up and called after her.
She acted as if she hadn't heard, heading into the garage and speeding off with a roar of the engine.
Jonathan had recently noticed that Giselle wasn't as simple as she appeared and thought Elsa's anger towards her wasn't without reason. He grabbed his car keys to follow her.
"Let her go. She's not my biological child, after all. There's no real bond," Lara said bitterly, her face falling as she sulked and left the dining room.
What does unconditional favoritism look like? Even though Lara and Jonathan knew Giselle was wrong, they wouldn't do anything about it. Instead, they'd morally coerce Elsa to be forgiving and gracious.
Giselle's mistakes were nothing; Elsa's lack of tolerance was the real sin.
Elsa could tolerate Giselle's bullying because of her terminal illness, but why should Chloe have to suffer?
The more Elsa thought about it, the angrier she became. She sped down the mountain road.
Luke had just finished his work and was driving home alone when he saw Elsa's Cayenne speeding past him.
What was going on?
Luke's eyes darkened, and he turned his car around to follow her.
Elsa drove recklessly, flooring the gas pedal until she hit the outer ring highway, pushing her car to 100 miles per hour, speeding the entire way.
The highway was crowded with trucks at night, their horns blaring and bright xenon lights making it hard to see.
Elsa's speed was completely unsafe.
What was so urgent? Where was she going?
Luke frowned deeply, driving his recently repaired Cullinan, keeping a safe but close distance behind her.
She was speeding, so he had to speed to keep up.
But Elsa was too focused, her anger having no outlet, she just kept speeding, unaware that the car behind her was his.
She drove forty miles on the highway, turned around at the next toll station, and headed back, all the way to the starting toll station.
After more than an hour, she returned to the city roads, slowing down and lowering her car window.
The winter wind blew in, allowing her to gradually calm down.
The car behind her honked twice, then changed lanes to drive alongside her.
The window rolled down, revealing Luke's handsome face. "Elsa, come on, let me take you somewhere to relax."
Only then did Elsa realize Luke had been following her the whole time.
Seeing someone who truly cared for her, tears of grievance welled up and spilled over, unable to be held back.
In countless days to come, whenever Elsa thought back to this night and the moment she saw Luke, her heart would still flutter.
If she didn't marry this man again, who else could she marry?
Elsa suddenly wanted to go back to school soon, graduate quickly, and remarry Luke.
She thought they had successfully passed all their emotional tests, their hearts aligned, and nothing could separate them again.
Little did she know, someone would soon appear, changing everything and sparking a new crisis in their relationship.
