Chapter 445 Fell Asleep So Quickly?

The next day, Jonathan had just walked into the office when his phone rang. It was Lara, and she sounded frantic. "What's going on between you and Giselle?"

"What? What do you mean?" Jonathan asked, confused.

Lara's voice was shaky, almost in tears. "You need to come home. Giselle... she's gone."

Giselle was a terminal cancer patient, and Lara's "gone" left Jonathan fearing the worst.

"Don't worry, I'm on my way!" Jonathan said urgently, grabbing his things and rushing out of the office.

When he got home, it turned out to be a misunderstanding. Giselle had literally left the house.

The night before, after leaving Jonathan's study, Giselle had written a letter and placed it on the bedside table. She then slipped out of King Manor during the night. This morning, when the servant went to call her for breakfast, they found her room empty.

Jonathan walked in to find Lara clutching Giselle's letter, tears streaming down her face.

"She's a grown woman; she'll be okay," Jonathan said, trying to comfort Lara as he put an arm around her shoulders.

Giselle, always thoughtful and articulate, had written in the letter that she felt like a burden to the King family and it was time for her to leave. She urged them to take care of themselves but didn't give any details about what had happened.

But Lara had a gut feeling that it had something to do with Jonathan.

"What really happened between you and Giselle? She looks at you differently," Lara asked again, unable to hold back.

Years ago, Giselle was more transparent with her feelings, and Lara had noticed a few things.

Jonathan was quiet for a moment before closing the door and telling Lara everything.

Lara sighed, "It's tough to be logical when it comes to matters of the heart. Making mistakes is understandable. But Giselle has always been fragile and kind-hearted. I never thought she would do something like this."

Jonathan stayed silent.

After a while, Lara continued, "Given Giselle's condition, she doesn't have much time left. No matter how stubborn she is or what mistakes she's made, I don't think she should be alone."

Lara's voice cracked with emotion.

Giselle was the granddaughter of Lara's friend and had grown up close to her. Lara had always felt a special bond with her.

Every time Giselle's illness came up, Lara would break down, and her mental state had been deteriorating.

Seeing Jonathan remain silent, Lara started to cry again. "I'm begging you, no matter what she's done, she's dying."

Jonathan, ever dutiful to his mother, naturally agreed to find Giselle.

With the King's resources, tracking someone down wasn't difficult. By evening, Jonathan had located the hotel where Giselle was staying.

When Giselle saw Jonathan, her eyes immediately filled with tears. "Mr. King, I thought you'd never forgive me."

Her decision to run away had been a desperate move, hoping for some sort of resolution. If Jonathan hadn't come for her, she would have accepted it. His arrival meant forgiveness, allowing her to move past the issue.

Jonathan's presence meant she couldn't afford to be stubborn anymore.

Jonathan simply said, "Stop being stubborn, Giselle. Come home with me."

Hearing these comforting words, Giselle couldn't hold back her emotions any longer. She clung to Jonathan and cried so hard she could barely breathe.

Jonathan said nothing, waiting until she had cried enough, then packed her suitcase and led her out. Giselle hurried to follow.

Coincidentally, Chloe had arranged to meet a client for a French buffet at the same hotel. After finishing her meal, she came down from the top floor and saw Jonathan and Giselle checking out at the front desk.

Jonathan was holding a pink suitcase!

From the side, Chloe couldn't see Jonathan's expression, but Giselle's eyes were red, as if she'd been wronged.

After living together for so many years without any issues, had they suddenly become intimate? Shouldn't these two be thanking her for her role in catalyzing this?

Chloe felt a pang of discomfort but simply raised an eyebrow, snapped a photo from behind, sent it to Elsa, and walked away briskly.

As Jonathan finished the paperwork and turned around, he only saw the sexy silhouette of someone in a fitted skirt walking away.
