Chapter 191 Onset
David was clutching the necklace that Luke's grandpa had given to his mom ages ago!
After Phyllis and her daughter snatched it, Elsa's mom felt so helpless, unable to protect herself and her brother, that she spiraled into a suicidal state.
Leslie even threatened to kill herself to get that necklace back!
It was just a necklace. But David, that heartless jerk, let his mom jump off a building rather than give it back!
Elsa dug her nails into her palm, barely holding it together, as she watched David flaunt the necklace like it was some kind of treasure.
"Elsa, we're family. Dad's giving you this necklace," David said.
"David, this is called returning it to its rightful owner," Elsa shot back.
She tried hard to keep a straight face, but her heart was aching so much she could hardly breathe.
"Yes, I am returning it to its rightful owner," David said with a forced smile. "Elsa, can you forgive Dad now?"
"We'll see." Elsa snatched the necklace and turned to get into the elevator.
She couldn't work anymore. That was Elsa's first reaction.
On the 15th floor, she sat back at her desk, turning the necklace over and over in her hands, feeling completely numb.
Her mom had lost her life over this thing.
"Mom, you were so foolish," Elsa murmured, her eyes welling up.
Elsa didn't necessarily have to marry into the Taylor family, and Leslie didn't insist on it either. Leslie just felt guilty for not defending what was rightfully Elsa's.
If Elsa had known it would turn out like this, she would have given the engagement to Karen early on. At least Leslie wouldn't have died.
But if she had done that, she and Luke would have missed each other for a lifetime.
Her heart ached sharply.
No, she needed to think of something happy. She couldn't let David win.
But she was in too much pain.
After enduring for over 20 minutes, Elsa couldn't hold on any longer. Under the strange gazes of her colleagues, she ran out.
16th floor, CEO's office.
Luke leaned back in his leather chair, expressionless, listening to several senior marketing executives report on their work. When he heard last month's data, the atmosphere around him became extremely tense.
Seeing Luke remain silent, the executives exchanged nervous glances, cold sweat dripping down their faces.
Suddenly, the office door was forcefully pushed open from the outside.
Who would dare enter Luke's office without knocking? They all looked over and saw Elsa standing at the door, her face pale.
The unspoken rules of Luke's office were clear: no one dared enter without knocking, except for her.
"Sorry." Elsa, seeing the room full of people, came to her senses and was about to leave.
Luke's icy expression finally softened a bit. He quickly stepped over and wrapped his arm around her waist.
"What's wrong?"
Elsa looked off, her whole body was cold, and her hands were shaking.
"Take me to see Lily."
Elsa clutched Luke's sleeve, her body trembling more and more, her thick eyelashes fluttering.
Luke's heart tightened with worry. He scooped her up in a bridal carry. "Alright."
With that, he left the others behind, contacting the driver while carrying Elsa to the car.
All the way, Elsa was very uneasy, her hands and feet cold, curling up in Luke's arms.
Luke tightened his arms, holding her like a baby, one hand supporting her back, the other her head.
"Don't be afraid! I'm here," He said in a deep voice, resting her head against his chest, using his strong heartbeat to comfort her.
Elsa had been emotionally stable for a while now. Who had upset her again?
[Check Elsa's schedule for today.] Once Elsa's expression eased a bit, Luke freed one hand to message Max, his eyes filled with a murderous intent.
