Chapter 135 The Beauty's Kindness

"I'm good, already had something," replied Luke.

The second Luke walked in, Lisa hustled over with some chicken soup, still warm. She made sure to drop Elsa's name, saying she insisted on making it for him. Luke's bad mood started to lift.

"Getting Lisa to whip me up a late-night snack? You're too sweet." Seeing Elsa awake, Luke nuzzled her neck and turned her to face him.

"How's Mr. Collins?" Elsa, a bit flustered by Luke's compliment, switched the topic.

Luke filled her in on Joe's condition.

After listening, Elsa was quiet for a long time before saying, "You should spend more time with him and see if Margaret needs anything."

Elsa had lost her mom at 21, so she got that kind of pain. Margaret must be hurting too.

"Why are you being so generous all of a sudden?" Luke cupped Elsa's chin with both hands and looked into her eyes.

"If I told you not to go, would you stay?" Elsa asked.

"No."

"Then why should I be the bad guy?" Elsa said.

Luke pinched Elsa's cheek, and his mood finally lightened a bit.

"What if what Margaret needs is me?" he teased.

After hearing about Joe's terminal illness, Elsa's eyes remained solemn and reflective. Luke suddenly felt the impulse to lift her spirits.Elsa replied, "That depends on what you think."

Chloe was right; Elsa had already given her heart away. Whether Luke accepted it or trampled on it was no longer up to her.

'What kind of answer is that? Matters of the heart should be mutual,' Luke thought.

He was dissatisfied with her answer but didn't have the energy to argue.

"Let's sleep," Luke said flatly.

'Is he mad?' Elsa wondered, looking at Luke's closed eyes.

On Chloe's side, after Elsa was taken away by Luke last night, Jonathan sat for a while before being called away by friends.

Considering Elsa had received a lot of favors from Jonathan, Chloe generously went to the front desk to sign off on Jonathan's table, waiving the bill.

Jonathan, thinking Chloe was Elsa's friend, decided to support her business more and ordered several thousand dollars' worth of drinks.

They drank late into the night, and only when they went to settle the bill did they realize that the bill had already been taken care of.

"Well, Jonathan, it seems middle-aged men still have their charm. Going out for drinks and having a young lady treat you," Jonathan's friend teased.

"Was it that tall beauty at the door? She's the daughter of the Clark family, a dream girl for many. You should count yourself lucky."

"The hardest thing to repay is a beauty's favor."

Jonathan didn't stand on ceremony, waved his hand, and walked out the door, half-jokingly sighing.

Thinking of Chloe's slightly nervous demeanor in front of him made him smile. She was simple but generous in her actions.

Jonathan considered himself to owe her a favor.
