Chapter 430 Scheming Bitch

Chloe and Jonathan's first meal together had an unexpected third wheel: Elsa.

Her reasoning was simple: bringing someone else along would make it clear to Jonathan that the dinner was purely an apology, with no hidden agenda of getting closer to him.

The trio picked a fancy restaurant, with Chloe and Elsa arriving first and waiting for Jonathan in the main dining area. Chloe had deliberately chosen the main area over a private room to avoid any sense of intimacy; with so many eyes around, it was just a meal, nothing more.

Since that drunken night when Chloe had embarrassed herself in front of Jonathan, avoiding any awkwardness was crucial for her.

Elsa, who doted on Chloe unconditionally, was happy to tag along.

However, when Jonathan walked in, his gentle smile froze upon seeing Elsa.

"What are you doing here?" Jonathan asked, clearly taken aback. Elsa, usually quick-witted, had managed to do something completely unexpected.

Was Jonathan annoyed?

Elsa raised an eyebrow but didn't get a chance to respond.

Chloe quickly interjected, "I ran into Elsa on the way, so I invited her along. Thought it might be a nice surprise for you, Mr. King."

"Surprise?" Jonathan's tone was dry. "Ms. Clark, what's so surprising about seeing my niece?"

Jonathan tried to keep his expression neutral, but he couldn't muster a smile. Inviting him to dinner and then bringing along someone he found annoying—how had he never noticed Chloe's mischievous side before?

The anticipated intimate dinner had turned into a trio, much to Jonathan's displeasure.

Unhappy, Jonathan spoke less, while Chloe and Elsa managed to keep the conversation going. Jonathan remained unusually silent.

To make matters worse, halfway through the meal, Elsa bluntly remarked, "Uncle Jonathan, you seem particularly upset today. Is it because of me?"

Jonathan maintained his composure, "Probably just tired from work."

But internally, he was fuming: Of course, it's because of you!

Elsa, instead of spending the evening with Luke, had come here to be a nuisance, hindering his chance to reconnect with Chloe.

The meal continued in an awkward atmosphere until a commotion erupted near the entrance.

"Looks like someone is proposing!" A young woman at the neighboring table said to her friend, both craning their necks to see.

None of the trio was interested in the spectacle, keeping their eyes on their own table.

A few moments later, the crowd stirred again.

"You're scaring me! Stop it!" A familiar female voice cried out in panic.

Jonathan turned to look.

"Giselle, if you don't agree to be my girlfriend, I'll end it right here."

"Don't do this!"

The girl screamed helplessly, and Jonathan was already on his feet, rushing over.

Elsa and Chloe, facing away from the entrance, hadn't turned around.

"I bet it's Giselle," Chloe said.

Elsa smirked, "I bet you're right."

They both turned to look. The male protagonist of the drama was being restrained by security, while the female lead, tearfully clinging to Jonathan, was indeed Giselle.

They stood up and walked towards the entrance.

"Strange, I saw that girl wiping the guy's mouth with a napkin earlier. Thought they were a couple," a waiter said to another.

"Refusing to be together but acting so intimate. What a schemer."

These comments didn't reach Jonathan's ears but were heard loud and clear by Chloe and Elsa.

It seemed Giselle had been leading the man on, making him believe he had a chance, and this wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision but a calculated move.

She had simply chosen the perfect moment to trigger this reaction.

"What do you think her motive is?" Chloe asked.

"To show she's in demand, spark a competitive spirit in men, or at the very least, disrupt your date with Uncle Jonathan," Elsa sneered.

Chloe shrugged, "But I'm not interested in Jonathan anymore."

Elsa replied, "Then she's shooting blanks. How pointless."

As they reached the entrance, the man had been escorted out, leaving Giselle, tear-streaked and trembling, in Jonathan's arms.

Seeing Chloe approach, Jonathan instinctively wanted to let go of Giselle.

But she clung tightly, and for a moment, facing Chloe, Jonathan felt like he was caught cheating.
