Chapter 383 Visiting (Part 2)

When Lara discovered that the three of them not only knew each other but were also business partners, she couldn't help but marvel at the wonders of fate.

"I felt an instant connection with these two young ladies the moment I met them. I had no idea you were already friends," Lara said, holding their hands. "Looks like my son and I have the same taste in people."

Elsa smiled. "Eric mentioned last year that you were coming over when the weather got warmer. I've been wanting to visit you ever since."

"I was supposed to come in the spring, but Giselle got sick and had to recover in Lakeshire City. I couldn't leave her, so I ended up coming in the winter," Lara explained.

Elsa didn't know who Giselle was, so she stayed quiet.

"Giselle is my mom's goddaughter, Giselle Montague. She's been living with my mom and will be coming over in a few days," Jonathan clarified.

"She's around your age and a delightful girl. I'll introduce you when she arrives," Lara added.

Elsa nodded.

Chloe, who usually spoke even less than Elsa, sat quietly to the side, not saying a word.

Lara noticed Chloe's eyes welling up and her face turning red when she saw Jonathan, sensing something was off.

"We'll have a simple lunch today. Would you like to cook one of your specialties and let the chef handle the rest?" Lara suggested to Jonathan.

"Sure, what would you like?" Jonathan, who had seen Lara endure many hardships to raise him, was very filial.

"How about a mixed stew? No one makes it as well as you do," she said, deliberately choosing a complicated dish.

Jonathan smiled and agreed, heading to the kitchen.

Barely two minutes later, Lara said, "Jonathan hasn't cooked in years and isn't used to having help in the kitchen. Ms. Clark, do you know how to cook?"

Chloe finally spoke up. "A little."

"Could you please help Jonathan in the kitchen?"

Chloe stood up awkwardly. "Okay."

She accidentally knocked over a coffee cup and stood there, flustered.

Elsa sighed inwardly. This was her friend who could negotiate billion-dollar deals without breaking a sweat, yet she was so flustered in front of the man she loved and his family.

Chloe bent down to clean up, but Lara quickly called a servant.

"Don't let Ms. Clark hurt her hands," she said.

Chloe then headed towards the kitchen.

It was clear to Elsa that Lara was creating an opportunity for Chloe and Jonathan. She watched Lara's familiar face, feeling a pang of sadness.

If her mother, Leslie, were still alive, she would probably look just like this.

She would be as graceful and beautiful as Lara, with a youthful heart.

Lara said something, but Elsa was lost in thought and didn't hear it.

"What?" she asked, a bit flustered.

"Nothing. What were you thinking about that made you so sad?" Lara asked.

"My mother looked a lot like you," Elsa answered truthfully.

"Really? Do you have a photo? I'd love to see it," Lara said, intrigued.

Elsa pulled out her phone and showed her a picture.

Lara stared at it for a long time, as if she couldn't get enough, lost in thought.

"What was your mother's name? How old was she?" she asked softly.

"Her name was Leslie King. She passed away last year. She would have been 44 this year," Elsa replied.

"King?" Lara's voice carried a hint of surprise.
