Chapter 246 Negotiation

Luke felt dejected and, for the first time, went home early.

"Mr. Taylor, Mrs. Taylor just came back. She's upstairs," Lisa said, hurrying to greet Luke as he returned.

She finally came back.

Luke's tense nerves relaxed a bit.

"Ask Elsa what she wants to eat and make it for her," he said.

"No need, I'm leaving soon," Elsa, who had been packing, heard Luke's voice and came out, standing by the railing on the second floor, politely saying.

They had been living together, intimately, for so long, yet now she was being as polite as a stranger.

Luke felt a pang in his heart and looked up at her.

She was too thin, wearing a gray sweater, standing there.

The sweater hung loosely on her, making her look extremely frail and pale.

A sense of guilt washed over him, and Luke, suppressing the pain in his heart, walked upstairs.

"Are you feeling better? Why were you discharged from the hospital so soon?" he said, trying to put his arm around her waist, but she subtly avoided it.

"I'm much better. Thank you for taking care of me these past few months." Elsa answered carmly.

He had been good to her, except for not protecting the child. Elsa's heart ached, but she maintained a calm demeanor as she thanked him. Refraining from a heated confrontation in person was probably the last bit of kindness she could offer him.

Luke sensed her resistance, and the pain in his heart spread throughout his body.

"Have we really come to this?" Luke sat on the sofa in the living room, habitually taking out a cigarette.

For the sake of preparing for pregnancy and Elsa's health, he had abstained from smoking for a long time., but recently he had been smoking more heavily.

Elsa sighed, a hint of sadness appearing on her face. She remarked, "Let's get a divorce. I've tried so hard, but I don't want to live like this anymore."

She was mentally prepared to negotiate with him; she wanted to part ways with dignity.

"This is the agreement I drafted. I owe you so much, and it won't be easy to repay it all. I'll give you what I can first." Her voice was a bit dry as she took out a stack of papers from her bag and placed them in front of Luke.

"What will it take for you not to divorce me?" Luke took a deep breath and began to negotiate with her. "I can bring down the Miller family within a month, how about that?" he continued.

Trying to keep her with emotions at this point would make him seem too humble. Luke tried to regain his rationality from the emotional whirlpool and negotiate with her.

Elsa shook her head, refusing, "I want to personally end the Miller family, you know that."

"What if I send Margaret abroad, never to return?" Luke uttered with urgency.

Seeing her negotiating with him so seriously, Luke's mind was in turmoil.

He didn't want this serious version of her; he just wanted to hold her, kiss her until she was disoriented, and cling to his tie.

"Whatever happens to Margaret in the future has nothing to do with me. I just want a divorce now," Elsa said firmly.

Luke inquired, "What if I refuse?" Seeing the fatigue on Elsa's face, he felt nothing but heartache.

"Don't make this so undignified, Luke. I'm tired," Elsa sighed and stood up. She stated carmly, "I came back today just to pack some things. The necklace and pink diamond are in the drawer of your desk. Please sign the agreement when you have time..."

Before she could finish, Luke pressed her against the railing behind her.

He leaned down to kiss her, his arms tightly around her as if afraid she would disappear from his embrace.

Elsa couldn't break free, and after a symbolic struggle, she actually hugged him back.

They kissed for over 20 minutes, both panting heavily.

"Baby, I want to make love to you." Luke spoke, his breath ragged and alarming. Half dragging, half carrying her, he took her into the nearest bedroom.
