Chapter 426 His Little Friend
Sitting in her office, Chloe watched the surveillance footage Jonathan had sent her, wishing she could disappear into a hole in the ground.
Oh my God, what was she doing?
She had gone wild in Jonathan's living room, mistaking him for a gigolo from a nightclub.
They had been intimate so many times, yet she couldn't recognize him when she was drunk. Even sober Elsa wouldn't believe that. Jonathan must think she was faking it, right?
And the way he looked at her in the footage—so indulgent.
No, that had to be her imagination!
Later, they went to the bedroom, leaving the door open, and the living room was filled with suggestive sounds.
She had mistaken the CEO of a publicly traded company for a male escort and clung to him, demanding they have sex immediately, acting so desperate!
She had said she wanted to break up with Jonathan, but when drunk, she clung to him. He was probably laughing at her inconsistency, thinking her so-called breakup was just a ploy to manipulate him!
Chloe felt mortified. No matter what, she had definitely messed up.
She thought about it all day and finally decided to call Jonathan just before leaving work.
"I'm sorry, Jonathan. I didn't know I'd act like that when drunk. I really didn't mean to bother you, I..." As soon as he picked up, she launched into her prepared apology.
"Chloe, this is an utter humiliation for me," Jonathan said after a moment of silence.
"I'm sorry, I know I was wrong."
"My mental state has been affected. A verbal apology won't suffice."
"Then can I give you money?"
As soon as she said it, Chloe regretted it. Jonathan didn't need her money, and offering it was just plain stupid. It would only confirm she saw him as a male escort.
Sure enough, he scoffed, "Do you think I need money?"
If he didn't want money, she had nothing else to offer. She couldn't exactly take out an ad to apologize.
Chloe steeled herself. "Then sue me. Say I forced you, let the law punish me."
Jonathan nearly choked on his own saliva. He covered the phone's microphone with his thumb, unable to suppress his laughter. How had he never noticed how interesting Chloe was before?
He tried to keep his voice cold. "Ms. Clark, the Clark family might not care about their reputation, but the King family does."
"Then..."
"Ms. Clark, treat me to ten meals. After that, we'll call it even."
She audibly sighed in relief.
"Sure, no problem. As long as Mr. King forgives me, even if it's..." Chloe caught herself, "Just ten meals. Deal."
After hanging up, Jonathan's mood, which had been gloomy all day, finally brightened.
He had overlooked Chloe in the past. Now that he had another chance to spend time with her, he needed to make the most of it.
The King Villa was next door to Luke's house, which was convenient for Elsa.
Her grandmother and ex-husband constantly vied for her attention, asking where to eat before mealtime and where to stay before nightfall.
To keep Lara happy, Elsa usually had dinner at the King family's place and then went to Luke's to sleep.
Surrounded by loved ones every day, she felt blissfully happy. The minor incident at the family reunion seemed to have blown over. Margaret was confined to a psychiatric facility, Luke's Cullinan was returned, and nothing else unsettling happened. Karen hadn't shown up either. Elsa even thought she might have been overly anxious.
Everything changed when Giselle was discharged from the hospital.
