Chapter 121 Dylan Jones's Bait
David had some new stuff going on.
After that fancy dinner, Dylan had David Miller and his daughter, Karen Millerover for dinner three more times. David knew exactly what Dylan was up to and let him cozy up to Karen.
During the third dinner, David's phone buzzed.
"Sorry, gotta take this," David said with a grin, stepping away.
Dylan nodded, and David hurried out.
In less than a minute, he rushed back in, grinning. "What a coincidence, Mr. Jones. There's an urgent thing with my project I gotta handle."
Before Dylan could say anything, David grabbed his coat and was ready to bounce.
"Dad, if it's urgent, let me go with you," Karen said, catching the weird vibe from Dylan.
Karen, who was used to social scenes, always felt uneasy around Dylan. Though she had a wild private life, it was always with young, hot heirs. Dylan, a middle-aged dude older than David, was a different story.
"That's nonsense! You stay and enjoy the meal with Mr. Jones. Don't let him down!" David said, rushing out.
"I'm not big on pressuring folks," Dylan said, placing his hand on Karen's.
"Mr. Jones, you've had too much to drink," Karen said, panicking and trying to stand up.
"Karen, you're smart. The Miller family has changed. Stick with me, and your future will be way brighter," Dylan said, gripping her hand tightly and staring at her.
"Mr. Jones, if my father finds out, the relationship between our families will be over!"
"Do you think your father didn't know? Do you think he left because of some urgent matter?" Dylan laughed at her naivety. "Didn't he say he was going to the project site? Why don't you call the project manager and ask?"
Karen called the managers of the two projects the Miller family was involved in.
After getting negative answers, Karen was stunned. She leaned back in her chair, speechless.
David's actions were clear: he was using her to save the Miller family. Karen had always thought that despite their focus on profit, David and Phyllis cherished her. Now, it seemed that wasn't true.
"Your father is thinking about the Miller family's future. Stay with me, and all my future fire safety projects will be yours. The Miller family could not only survive but thrive," Dylan said, leaning closer. "What's the point of hanging out with those twenty-something heirs? How many of them have real power?"
"No, Luke Taylor has real power, but he's married to another Ms. Miller," Dylan added.
This was a brutal blow.
Losing to Elsa was something Karen could never accept, and Dylan chose this moment to bring it up.
Karen bit her lip in anger, her face turning pale.
"Sex should be consensual. Making someone do something they don't want isn't cool. Take your time to mull it over. Come to me before 10 PM tonight, and I'll treat you well. If you don't come, I won't bother you again," Dylan remarked.
He then checked his watch, pulled a room key card from his coat pocket, and tossed it in front of Karen.
"Getting old, not as charming as I used to be," Dylan sighed half-jokingly, draped his coat over his arm, and walked away.
