Chapter 313 George's Visit
When Luke entered the room and saw that Leo was fine, he visibly relaxed. But when his gaze fell on Elsa's hand holding the bowl, he tensed up again.
Elsa knew about the relationship between Luke and Leo. Given her understanding of Luke, he was worried about Leo and came to check on him.
"You guys chat," she said, putting down the bowl and turning to leave.
"No, my arm hurts, I can't eat by myself," Leo whined, tugging at her sleeve.
Luke just watched coldly, saying nothing.
"If you keep this up, I'll tell everyone you're still a virgin," Elsa whispered in Leo's ear, satisfied to see his expression change.
To Luke, this act was no different from flirting.
He stared at Elsa but remained silent.
Seeing Luke's dramatic expression, Elsa knew he had misunderstood but didn't explain. She even thoughtfully closed the door for them as she left.
"Luke, are you disappointed to see I'm not dead?"
They had never been alone like this before. For a moment, their eyes met, and Leo suddenly turned his head awkwardly.
"If you want to beat me, work hard. These tricks are meaningless. Leo, you're still alive. If something really happened, would you still have the life to fight me?"
No matter how opposed they were, Leo had Taylor's family blood in him. Luke saw something suspicious in Leo's accident but was also scared out of his wits.
"Are you afraid I'll die?" A hint of surprise flashed in Leo's eyes.
Luke: "If you're fine, get out of the hospital quickly. Don't fake being sick to make my wife take care of you."
Leo was about to say that Elsa was no longer his wife, but Luke had already walked out of the ward.
In the following days, Elsa didn't see Luke for nearly two weeks.
During the day, she worked as Leo's assistant, and at night, she studied fashion design, waiting for Jonathan's factory to open. She felt quite fulfilled.
Leo returned home after two days in the hospital. The ambiguous atmosphere between him and Elsa gradually faded, and Elsa couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
As summer was about to end, Elsa received a call from an unknown number.
"Elsa, you said you'd come to Stellaria City to see me in the spring. Why didn't you?" The voice was familiar—it was George!
In the spring, Elsa had a miscarriage and was in a fierce battle with the Miller family. At that time, her relationship with Luke had reached its end.
Elsa's nose tingled: "Grandpa, I had some issues and couldn't make it. I'll come see you this weekend."
"No need, Elsa. I'm in Maplewood City. Let's go to Stardream Resort this weekend. I'll pick you up at 9."
Elsa wanted to tell George that she and Luke were divorced but decided against it.
Just because she and Luke were divorced, did that mean she should avoid George? George had helped her, and it would be too ungrateful to do so.
Moreover, their situation had caused quite a stir, and George probably already knew.
Saturday came quickly, and George's car arrived at Elsa's building as promised.
George sat in the front, and Karida sat in the back.
Elsa politely nodded to Karida and sat next to her. She handed a box of homemade snacks to the front and greeted them with a smile.
"What's this?" George asked, puzzled, as he took the box.
"I learned to make donuts from a video, sugar-free."
George had high blood sugar. Elsa had noticed him taking medication for it last time and remembered.
"Very thoughtful," George said, smiling. He took one and ate it, then passed the box to the driver.
"Here, Luke, you haven't tried Elsa's cooking, have you?"
It was only then that Elsa realized Luke was the one driving.
With Luke there, agreeing to go on this trip made it seem like she couldn't get over him.
Elsa felt a bit awkward: "I didn't know he was coming too."
"What, you two get divorced, and you don't recognize me as your grandpa anymore?" George said sternly.
"That's not what I meant, George," Elsa quickly reassured him, seeing he was upset. "Luke and I divorced amicably, without any conflict. Besides, you have been kind to me; how could I not acknowledge you?"
Without George, Brian wouldn't have helped her, and the Miller family wouldn't have fallen so quickly. But ultimately, George helped because of Luke.
A strange feeling welled up in her heart.
"I'm old now. As long as I eat well and have fun, I'm happy. If you two can play chess with your grandpa, I'll be even happier."
"No problem," Elsa quickly agreed.
Luke listened to their conversation without saying a word.
He picked up a donut and put it in his mouth. After a while, he said lightly, "The oven temperature was a bit high."
Elsa opened her mouth, about to say, "Then don't eat it," but remembering Luke's help, she held back.
Luke watched Elsa's restrained expression in the rearview mirror and couldn't help but feel a twinge in his heart.
