Chapter 52 Unfair to You
'I should talk to my mother!' Luke thought.
"Go back to sleep for a while." Luke rocked Elsa like a child, tucking her in with a blanket.
He took his phone to his study, preparing to talk to his mother.
But unexpectedly, his mother called first.
"Elsa must be complaining to you right now, son. I punished her within the family, because what she did was too much!"
Debbie was still angry and couldn't help but call Luke.
"Elsa was so stubborn. She's never given me a kind word. She was married to you, but she still saw other men. If Karen hadn't seen it, you would have been betrayed without knowing anything! Luke, you can't marry a woman like that. If you don't like Karen, Margaret is returning to the country. You used to like Margaret. You two can give it a try!"
"Mom." Luke interrupted his mother.
"When Elsa came back, she didn't say a word. When I asked her about it, she said she fell down the stairs on her knees."
Her behavior was in stark contrast to his mother's.
Debbie felt a bit embarrassed for a moment, saying, "That's because she feels guilty!"
"Mom, you don't understand Elsa, that's why you think that about her. Anyway, she is my woman, and I hope you won't interfere with her in the future."
Luke didn't really understand Elsa either. After all, she was mysterious and unwilling to reveal anything. He always thought she was someone who held grudges, or someone who was petty and vengeful. But when it came to his mother, she was always patient and tried to avoid conflicts. She hadn't told him about the last time she had been hit, and she hadn't told him she had been punished to kneel this time either.
'Is it just because she's my mother?' Luke thought.
Luke's heart was beating a little fast.
He took the ointment and went back to the bedroom.
Elsa couldn't sleep now. She curled up in the corner of the bed, holding her knees, lost in thought. When she saw Luke coming over, she raised her eyes to look at him.
Luke's heart softened, and he went over to hold her in his arms.
"If you dare to show up injured again, you'll see how I deal with you."
Lily said that when Elsa's depression relapsed, her self-harm had been due to subconscious self-hatred. She felt that she hadn't protected her mother, leading to her mother's suicide. Therefore, she resented herself. Subconsciously, she felt she didn't deserve to be healthy and happy. She could only feel psychologically secure when she self-harmed or was harmed.
Luke felt fear in his heart whenever he saw the scars on Elsa's arms.
Elsa let him apply the ointment to her, then suddenly sighed.
"You're such a good man. I feel like marrying me has really put you in a difficult position."
'Luke is such a good person. He's done nothing wrong, but he's been entangled in the vortex of hatred because of me. His mother's hatred of me is deserved,' Elsa thought
"I'm glad you know that." Luke's lips curled imperceptibly.
A few days later, when Luke returned home from work, he saw that Elsa had moved some things from her original house and was rearranging them.
"Did you move out of your original house?" he asked. There was no emotion on his face, but inside, he was quite pleased with her behavior.
'She's come to her senses,' Luke thought.
"Yes," Elsa casually replied since she was busy. Then, she felt that she should seek his opinion.
"Is this okay?" She was a bit unsure of Luke's attitude.
"Whatever." Luke's good mood was dampened by her words.
Elsa had no idea what Luke was thinking. When she saw that he agreed, she began to direct him without hesitation.
"I'll move the clothes to the closet and you take the box of books to the study. Don't let Lisa touch it, I'll organize it myself later." She handed the large box of books to Luke and left with her clothes.
Then Luke obediently moved the books to his study, and casually cleared two shelves for her.
He suddenly became curious about what she was reading, so he opened the box and started arranging the books for her one by one.
Contrary to her interesting appearance, Elsa's taste in books was extremely dull. The entire box was filled with design books and notes, which gave Luke a headache.
When he picked up a thick book with over a thousand pages, a faded red A4-sized card suddenly fell out.
