Chapter 274 Settle the Accounts
Luke's face was cold and he remained silent. Max hurried over and said, "I'll discuss the compensation with Mr. Jones. How about Mr. Taylor and Ms. Miller find a place to chat?"
Elsa originally wanted to say that she had nothing to discuss with Luke, but seeing the murderous look in his eyes, she swallowed all her words.
"How about you come up and sit for a while?" With his inexplicable sense of pressure, she felt more nervous facing Luke than she did facing Dylan during the day.
Luke didn't speak but took a step ahead of her towards the entrance.
Elsa reluctantly swiped her card and led him all the way to the elevator and up to her apartment.
Opening the door, she bent down to change her shoes and said to Luke, "There are only Vincent's slippers at home, so you don't need to change. What would you like to drink? I think there's only coffee and water."
Luke didn't respond, and Elsa turned back in confusion.
She was caught off guard as Luke pressed her against the shoe cabinet behind her. One of her high heels was still in her hand when he kissed her.
The high heel fell onto the marble floor with a clatter.
"Let go!" Elsa pushed against Luke's chest, trying her best to create some distance.
Luke's face was terrifyingly dark. He was much taller than Elsa, casting a shadow over her.
"Are you going to let Jonny kiss you? Elsa, it's been less than a month since our divorce, and you're already looking for a boyfriend?"
Luke believed Elsa had no romantic feelings for Jonny; she wasn't the type who was bold in action but afraid to face the consequences. But seeing them embrace downstairs, he lost all rationality.
He ordered Max to carsh into Jonny's car. Max couldn't argue with him and finally closed his eyes as he crashed into the car's front bumper.
Elsa was amused by Luke's questioning. "Luke, you do know we're divorced, right?"
She pushed Luke away and sat on the sofa.
Because of Elsa's slightly mocking words, Luke's foggy mind cleared. He loosened his tie and sat across from Elsa.
"Let's talk." Elsa looked at Luke in front of her, took a deep breath, and spoke with difficulty, "I owe my safe return this time to you. I still have twenty million dollars from the Dylan incident, as well as the building. Is that enough to repay you?" She was determined to draw a clear line with Luke and wanted to clarify things early.
Luke's face grew darker. "Elsa, is that waht you really want?"
Elsa nodded. "You can have your subordinates help calculate. If it's not enough, I'll write an IOU. I'll pay it off eventually."
"Do you really have to be so clear-cut with me?" Luke's eyes showed a hint of hurt.
"Since we're already divorced, I don't want to take advantage of you. Also, if something like today happens again, you don't need to save me. I can handle it myself." Some words were hard to say, especially to Luke.
Elsa felt a surge of bitterness in her heart. But since they were already divorced, she should start her new life.
"Elsa, what will it take for you to remarry me?" Luke's anger was barely contained.
He had always gotten what he wanted since childhood and had never been so humble in front of a woman!
"I won't remarry." Once Elsa made up her mind, no one could change it.
"Even if you return to your old life overnight and you're deep in debt?"
"Of course."
Luke felt that if he didn't leave now, he would lose control.
"You want to be clear-cut with me, right? Fine, come to the Taylor Group tomorrow and settle it with the finance department!"
