Chapter 432 The Figure in the Darkness

Karen had always kept up a pure and innocent image, even when her reputation got a bit tarnished by hanging out with wealthy heirs and older men. She was known for her long, flowing hair and white outfits, looking like a classical pianist.

Now, after more than six months, she had transformed from her innocent style to a sophisticated, wealthy woman's appearance. It was clear she had undergone some cosmetic surgery, making her look quite different.

Her eyes were larger, her double eyelids more pronounced, her lips fuller, and her face shape smoother. Yet, Elsa recognized her immediately.

Chloe glanced around, "Maybe it's just someone who looks similar."

"Trust me, it's her," Elsa said confidently.

Once Karen walked away, the two of them entered the boutique.

The sales associate recognized Chloe and greeted her with a smile, inviting them into the VIP lounge.

"What bag did that short-haired lady buy just now? She seems to have good taste," Chloe asked casually, taking the bag handed to her by the sales associate, glancing at it briefly before putting it back in the dust bag.

"She bought a crimson crocodile skin bag and some furniture," the sales associate replied.

A crimson crocodile skin Birkin bag from Hermès would easily cost over a million dollars, and the furniture was outrageously overpriced. Even when the Miller family hadn't gone bankrupt, Karen couldn't have afforded such luxuries.

The two exchanged a look: Had Karen struck it rich?

"You're not just trying to get me to buy more bags, are you?" Chloe asked, "That wouldn't be very sincere."

"Of course not! Ms. Clark, I would never deceive you!" Chloe was a valuable customer, and the sales associate didn't want to lose her trust.

To prove she wasn't making things up, the sales associate quickly retrieved Karen's credit card receipt from the front desk to show them.

"This lady is from Valeria, and the name on the card is Valeria."

"Are you sure we didn't mistake her for someone else? She doesn't look the same, and the name is different. Plus, where did she get the money? If she had money, why would she let Phyllis fall into such a state?" Chloe asked Elsa as they left the boutique.

The name on the credit card receipt was "Nova Ramirez," not Karen.

"I wouldn't mistake her, I'd recognize her even if she were ashes," Elsa said with absolute certainty.

Karen was back, which made everything that had happened recently make more sense. Phyllis's early release from prison, Margaret's acid attack at the recognition ceremony, the bomb under Luke's car—all of it, Elsa attributed to Karen without hesitation.

Karen's goal was simple: she wanted Elsa dead, and she wanted everyone Elsa cared about dead!

Karen had become utterly deranged. Passive defense wasn't going to work; Elsa needed to take the initiative and bring Karen down as soon as possible.

Later that night, around ten o'clock, Chloe and Elsa parted ways and went home.

Chloe's neighborhood was pitch black; the power had gone out at some point.

She asked in the residents' group chat, and the property management said it was an electrical repair that would be fixed within half an hour.

Fortunately, her apartment wasn't too high up, and she was wearing flat shoes, so walking up wasn't too bad. Chloe thought as she turned on her phone's flashlight and started climbing the stairs.

Finally reaching her door, she used the faint light from her phone to find the electronic lock, but instead, she touched something solid and fleshy.

Chloe hadn't yet recovered from seeing Karen, and now, being blocked at her door in the dark, she screamed in terror, her legs going weak.
